Instructor of Computer Information Systems and Elementary Class Assistant Teacher (Native English Speaker Only, Starting day: April 2018)

About ISN

ISN (International School of Nagano) is an English-Japanese, bilingual preschool and elementary school situated in Matsumoto City in Japan’s beautiful Nagano Prefecture, serving families in Matsumoto and surrounding communities. With five, great capacity classrooms plus a jungle-gym playroom in our Minami-Matsumoto Campus (preschool), we are going to open a second campus in Kotobuki-Kita (preschool and elementary school) Autum 2017. In 2017 we are enrolling students from 2 years old, up to and including Grade 4. ISN is an IB candidate school (July 2017).

We are a wonderfully diverse school, currently serving about 120 students with a vibrant and dedicated faculty, devoted parents, and a committed Board of Education. ISN’s teacher to student ratio is on average 1:15 and this exceptionally low ratio enables our experienced teachers to readily conduct an IB based approach to the curriculum. The main duty of the teacher is to lead their class with excitement and passion for a world standard education, while implementing an enquiry-based approach to instruction. Candidates should have experience in collaborative leadership, high expectations for faculty, staff, and all students, and be able to inspire the whole-school.

Role and responsibilities

Collaborate with other faculty in the development and maintenance of the computer related programs and the corresponding laboratory facilities. Teach courses in computer information systems and related areas. Assist in new program development efforts

  • Teach courses in computer information systems program and related computer programs.
  • Advise students
  • Assist in the continued maintenance and upgrading of the learning environment.
  • Assist in program/course development and review, report course student learning outcomes.
Also responsible for:
  • Social media marketing
  • the operation and instructional leadership at preschool and elementary schools. Trains and supervises staff, sets instructional objectives, and works to build a rapport with parents.
  • IT support
  • Assisting homeroom teachers and substitution.

Requirements
Educational Background

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related area; or a Bachelor’s degree with work experience or industry certifications in the field is preferred. Candidates with a K-G9 teaching license, and extensive knowledge of information technology will also be considered.

Experience

Computer related work and/or teaching experience. Familiarity with the Internet and programming; experience with data bases (MySQL, Access, Oracle), programming languages (Java, Visual Basic, Perl, PHP, JavaScript), Web development tools (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Creative Suite, HTML, Fireworks) and operating systems (Windows, Linux).

Special Skills

Ability to work effectively with community college students to provide quality instruction in information technology classes. Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.

  • To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.

  • To establish an environment with high safety and sanitary standards for children.
ISN School year

Starts April 1st and ends March 31st

General duties of position

8:00-16:00 The main tasks and duties of the teacher starts at 8 am by greeting children who are arriving at school and ends at 4pm. Teachers should arrive sufficiently early to ‘begin’ teaching at the prescribed starting time and clean and tidy up the classroom before s/he leaves. The school may arrange an early shift (7:30am start) to greet children who arrive early. We are open from Monday to Friday. Children will learn about themselves, people and the world around them in English through the activities we prepare and by spending almost all day here in ISN. The teachers are responsible for submitting the weekly plan for each class before the teachers meeting every Friday.

Main Duties
  • To effectively deliver the individual needs and interest of children in their learning environment.
  • To keep records of your children’s development and learning journeys and share with parents.
  • To support all staff and be an engaged team member.
  • To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children.
  • To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, weekly/monthly staff meetings, school evets, etc
  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, support with potty training, diaper change etc.
  • To work alongside the staff team to ensure that the setting’s philosophy is fulfilled.
  • To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.
  • To develop your role within the team.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
  • To be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside.
  • To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.

*From the start of the new school year (April 2018), teachers may change classes. This could put them in charge of any of the following age ranges: Ages 2-3 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years, 5-6 years.

Education and Training

Contract condition, visa and social benefits

Full-time, two years renewable contract.

Visa procedure

The school looks after the cost of the new teacher’s Visa application. After a submission of documents, it would take about three months to receive the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to apply the work visa in Japan.

The tuition

ISN offers scholarship and ISN teachers’ child(ren) are eligible if the criteria is met:
“Students who meet the below criteria will be considered for a scholarship that will cover all the cost of tuition while they are enrolled in ISN. The scholarship amount will not be charged to guardians.
*Enrollment fee, Facility fee, Maintenance fee will be charged. The sibling discount will not apply if the student accepts the scholarship.

ISN Scholarship | 2016 -2017 School Year

  • Available for two per grade
  • 2017 – 2018 School Year students from four to five years old class to Grade 5
  • Applications will be accepted from April 1, 2017. The process will finish when two candidates per grade have been accepted.

These are the criteria:
At least one parent is from a Majority-English Speaking Country and English is the primary language in the household. The following countries have been classified as a Majority-English Speaking Country by the United Kingdom Government (source: http://www.gov.uk): Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand ,St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
