The spring has sprung and so as the newest class at ISN- Canyon! It has been a few weeks since we started the new school year and we are glad on how the kids are adjusting and carrying on with all the new activities and routines like putting their stuff in the designated baskets first thing in the morning, following the classroom rules, as well as our “snake schedule”.
This week, we focused on colors as it is one of our monthly themes. The kids learned what the primary colors are (red, yellow, and blue) and the colors made from mixing two different primary colors (red and blue make purple, red and yellow make orange, and so on). As we continue to build their vocabulary, we encourage them to speak in full sentences such as, “I like white and black. /I like pink and red.” when expressing their favorite colors or “Open the door, please.” when we’re going out. Other in-depth topics we tackled this week were counting 1-10 and phonics.
To help the kids grasp the aforementioned topics, we sang songs which are related to them like “The Rainbow Song”, “Mix the Colors”, “Ten Little Horses” and “Alphabet Song”. Moreover, we sang our monthly songs, “Stroll” and “Spring is Here”, with actions; and to keep ourselves energized throughout the week, we did “Star Jump” and “Walking, Walking”.
Everyone also had a great time playing at the park with Aurora last Monday. The kids were very happy to see and play with dandelions and even found some earthworms on the ground.
It has been a great week and we are looking forward to more fun and exciting activities while learning English in the coming weeks! Have a great weekend, everyone!
