INTRODUCTION
What an exciting start to the first week of school! The Grades 5 and 6 students started off with ice breakers, where the children laughed and renewed friendships. Here, the kids are playing games in class. They had a blast with each other.
PE LESSONS
For PE lessons, the class played baseball in the school field. They hit home runs and ran round trying to tag the runners out. It was a great way to energize the children in between lessons. The kids enjoyed the outdoor activity immensely. With winter over and the days warming up, it was great to be out in the sun. It’s a great way to build up muscles too!
UNIT OF INQUIRY: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
We are focusing on Artificial Intelligence for this unit. In class, the students showed positive attitudes and a desire to learn. The kids were keen to find out more about Artificial Intelligence and its effects on the world. This topic is very relevant to the children- they are digital natives who will grow up harnessing the possibilities of this new technology. They explored various A.I. apps, and tried their hands at A.I. generated art, stories and of course ChatGPT!
LUNCH
After a hard day’s work, it is time for lunch! The children look forward to their lunch break. They were very positive about the new caterer. You could see the smiling faces on days when curry was served. They were especially impatient for lunch on these days!
OTHER EXCITING ACTIVITIES
The children also took part in a road safety workshop. Staff from the bus service guided the children on proper behaviour on public transport. They even let the children pose in the driver’s seat. It was really cool!
SPRING FESTIVAL
We capped up the first few weeks of school with the Spring Festival. Parents joined the kids in an hour of lessons. The children made full use of this opportunity to try out their A.I. generated surveys on their parents. The information gathered would then be used to design their final product- an AI enabled appliance.
It was heartening to see supportive parents keen to be partners in their children’s education. The students really lit up in the presence of their daddies and mummies. I believe the kids have great role models with positive attitudes towards learning at home!
