We visited the Timepiece Museum on the 9th of October. This was a great way to finish off unit 3 which was about machines, and to go to a museum that is all about different types of clocks was great. The students did really learning about clocks, and also combining their knowledge of machines to how clocks operate and some of the important things in a clock.

Only a few weeks ago, grade 2 harvested sweet potato that we had planted back in the summer. When we arrived, it looked like an animal had treated itself to some of our sweet potato, but that alright because the students were not deterred, and they wanted to find the sweet potato that they had worked hard for. We managed to harvest quite a number of sweet potato and we also got some big ones. This week, we’ll enjoy grilling them and eating them.

This past week, ISN was invited to Aida Junior High School for a student and English exchange. Aida were very hospitable to us, and welcomed us so warmly. They prepared a really good presentation and they were risk-takers by preparing games and activities in English. The students played games such as train rock, paper, scissors. The students also prepared questions in English to get to know each other well, such as sports questions, animal and food questions. We hope to continue beautiful and warm connection with Aida Junior High School.

This week, we also had a visit by a member of police services for a presentation for the students. This was key as the students could learn about how to protect themselves when they meet a stranger and some of the important things to remember, such as how they can use the buzzers that are clipped on their backpacks, and how to avoid someone they do not know in public. This was crucial, safety is the number 1 priority!!!

On the 24th of October, grade 2 had a long but a very memorable, enjoyable trip all the way to Lake Suwa. To get there, we used the train to commute. This was great as it was the first time for some students using the train and it went really well. The students were very respectful to all the other passengers on the train by sitting well, and using an inside voice. We also enjoyed a very warm foot onsen at Lake Suwa. The students were very excited for the Swan Boat and it was really calming, but great to ride on the boat. The students had very good lunch boxes as well, and they were looking forward to the snack that they had purchased with Ms. Miyo. I also had a good time, and it was a very successful trip.

Thank you very much for the continued support because this helps our learning journey and growth for the students and everyone associated with ISN. We have begun preparing for our Performance Day, so we will be busy with unit 4 as well. This week, we look forward to Halloween and the costumes that the students will be sporting. Thank you very much, and have a good weekend!!
