This summer was extremely hot, but the Rainbows had a blast enjoying their summer! They found ways to enjoy the summer, whether it was playing in the pool, splashing around in the water, enjoying summer vegetables, or insects like rhinoceros beetles, and they put their all into each activity. They also learned the joys and challenges of playing with friends and teachers and began to engage in conversations and negotiations even while playing. It was a summer in which the Rainbows grew significantly as “thinkers” and “communicators.” Our children’s innocent smiles are a treasure for the Rainbow class!

This month’s topic, “Fruit,” is a favorite theme among the children. Colorful and delicious-looking fruits are often eaten as desserts or snacks at school, and at home, so it seemed to be a very familiar topic. The Rainbows quickly memorized the names of these fruits (in English), and practiced and presented them in sentences such as “I LIKE XXX.” They picked up cards with their favorite fruits and shouted out in front of everyone, “I LIKE XXX!” I feel that it is important in activities like this to give children the comfort of knowing that their feelings are acknowledged and accepted, and the security of knowing that they will not be rejected.

In the craft class, our children created “Goldfish” inspired by goldfish scooping. They chose the color of soft paper (red or black) and gently wrapped rolled tissue paper in it to form a goldfish shape. Finally, they added eyes and the goldfish was complete. Our children seemed very happy and attached to their cute goldfish. This craft was inspired by Japanese festival stalls, in keeping with the theme of our sports festival 2025, “Festivals of the World.” Along with the “Yakisoba” they made last time, the “Goldfish” will add color to the sports festival venue!

The evacuation drill was conducted under the assumption that an earthquake had occurred during a nap. Our children hid under their futon bedss until the shaking stopped, and then they evacuated to the music room (because it was extremely hot outside) while protecting their heads. They listened carefully to the teacher’s instructions and were able to evacuate quietly and quickly. Good job!

During the OMIKOSHI race, please run to the Omikoshi of the same color as the headband your child gets, and help them with carrying the Omikoshi as needed. Please join in with the chant of “Wasshoi, Wasshoi!” We look forward to cheering on the children’s success together with all you.
