After a long hiatus, we had our first trip to the park in a while! We walked in pairs to the park, and had a drink break. Students had the choice of playing on the playground, swing set or simply to run around. Some students enjoyed sliding, others enjoyed being pushed on the swings, and some even enjoyed chasing their teachers! Everyone had a great time, and got lots of exercise!

Our next activity was gym class. We started with stretches of our legs, back and arms to get warmed up. After that, we practised forward and sideways rolls on our mat. Next we practised jumping up onto our platform and jumping off down again. Finally we put them all together, and did a circuit, starting with a roll and finishing with a jump up and then down. Everyone is getting so coordinated!

We started our new topic for the month of September! This month we will be investigating Rubbish, as well as the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We started off by making a mind map, using the student’s prior knowledge, as well as things they would like to learn about, and questions they would like answered. After that we watched a video from Bill Nye the Science Guy talking about rubbish. This was a nice introduction to some of the things we will learn about soon! A link to the video will appear below.

Finally, we had another fun music lesson! We started off by listening to, and clapping to, a set number of beats. We could tell the difference between 2 and 3 hits using a drum! After that we rolled a ball to our partners, trying to time it so that it matched the rhythm sung by our teacher. Next we read a book, choosing which picture started with the “Do” sound, and clapping along to its syllables. Finally, we sang London Bridge is Falling Down, changing our walking directions at the end of each verse.
