Welcome to our Summer School adventure! The first week has flown by, filled with creativity, exploration, water fun, and hands-on learning. Despite the heat, our students jumped into each day with energy and enthusiasm. From making new friends to engineering rockets and popping popcorn with solar power, we’ve had an exciting start to our summer together. Here’s a look at what we did each day.

Day 1: Getting to Know Each Other

We kicked off our summer school with a warm welcome and orientation. Students took part in fun icebreaker games to get to know their classmates and teachers. After creating personalized name tags, we explored the school together on a guided tour. Everyone also enjoyed a relaxing craft activity. Decorating fans to help us stay cool in the summer heat. It was a great start to building a strong and friendly learning community.

Day 2: Pancakes and Planting

Our morning began with a delicious cooking activity, making Norwegian-style pancakes! The students worked together in groups to mix, flip, and enjoy their creations. After the tasty treat, we moved on to a creative gardening project. Each student painted their own flower pot, filled it with soil, and carefully planted seeds. The pots looked beautiful and unique, and now we wait and watch as our flowers begin to grow!

Day 3: Forest Adventure

We set off on our first field trip to Forest Village. Surrounded by trees and fresh air, the students took on the challenge of the forest athletic course. From climbing to balancing, every obstacle was met with determination and big smiles. Luckily, the clouds gave us some much-needed shade, making the forest the perfect escape from the city heat. It was a wonderful day of teamwork and adventure.

Day 4: Science and Soaking Wet Fun

Today was all about science and water play! In the morning, we cooled down with some water gun fun. Laughter and squeals filled the air as students stayed active and refreshed.

In the afternoon, students participated in a bottle rocket experiment. We talked about airflow, energy types, and transformation, then the students designed and built their own rockets using only paper and tape. After a round of testing and analyzing what worked (and what didn’t), they redesigned and improved their rockets before launching them again. The creativity and problem-solving were impressive!

Day 5: Water Games and Solar Surprises

We ended the week with a splash! Our water games began with a fun twist on limbo, using a pool noodle with holes that acted like a shower. Next, students worked in teams to design their own team flags. They then played a capture-style game, trying to keep their own flag dry while soaking their opponents’ flag. It was a thrilling mix of strategy, teamwork, and water warfare.

Later, we tested our aim with a target shooting challenge using water guns to knock down newspaper strips.

In the afternoon, we gathered for a special popcorn party with a twist. A local community helper visited us and showed us how to pop popcorn using solar energy. Students helped assemble the solar panel and watched as the sun’s reflection popped the kernels. We finished the day inside, relaxing with a movie and enjoying the popcorn we helped make.
