This morning, the students enjoyed a special new breakfast menu! Today’s breakfast included chocolate croissants, Hawaiian pizza bread, and Cotton Candy Grapes. Since these were items requested by the students themselves, they disappeared very quickly!

The biggest hit of the morning was definitely the Cotton Candy Grapes. As the name suggests, both the aroma and flavor are surprisingly similar to cotton candy. When the students smelled and tasted them, many exclaimed, “It really does taste like cotton candy!”

Watching how well everyone has been eating throughout the trip, I asked whether they usually eat this much in Japan. Some students replied: “I usually just have a piece of cheese and some soup.” “I normally eat one small rice ball.”
When I asked why they thought they were eating so much more in Sydney, the answer came quickly: “Because it’s very yummy!”
Australia is known for its strong focus on healthy eating, and products containing artificial sweeteners are relatively uncommon. In fact, finding fruit juice that is not 100% juice can sometimes be more difficult than finding one that is. The students have been enjoying fresh 100% fruit juice every morning.

After breakfast, we moved to the classroom to learn about Australia’s Aboriginal culture.
This lesson connected directly to the afternoon’s boomerang art activity, so everyone listened carefully and worked hard to understand the content.

Although the material was quite challenging, the students’ comprehension has improved tremendously since the first day. Spending more time with Mr. Frank and Mr. Corey has likely helped them become more comfortable with Australian accents and spoken English.

Lunch consisted of roast chicken and coleslaw salad. After lunch, it was time for one of the most anticipated activities of the day—Aboriginal dot painting. The students, many of whom enjoy arts and crafts, were very excited to begin.

For this activity, they decorated traditional boomerangs inspired by Aboriginal hunting tools. First, students sketched their designs. Each child selected a favorite Australian animal as the main theme for their artwork.

Some chose quokkas, while others selected cockatoos, dingoes, and other native animals.
Traditional Aboriginal art often uses dot painting techniques. Historically, Aboriginal peoples used dots and symbols to tell stories and communicate ideas before written language was introduced. Using the end of a paintbrush handle, the students carefully created their own dot patterns one by one.

Once the painting began, the room became remarkably quiet. Everyone was deeply focused and fully immersed in their artwork.
After the paint dries completely, the boomerangs will be brought home to Japan. We hope families will enjoy seeing the finished pieces and hearing about everything the students learned about Aboriginal culture.
Later in the afternoon, the group visited the Westfield Shopping Centre next to the hotel, where students had a chance to browse souvenirs and enjoy some free time.

The weather was not ideal today, so most activities took place indoors. However, the slower pace provided a welcome opportunity for everyone to relax and recharge before the final days of the tour.
