After a relaxing holiday spent with family, the cheerful voices of our Canyon friends have returned to school! Happy New Year! With just three months left in the school year, we are dedicated to ensuring that every child enjoys their time at school, thriving in good health as they prepare for the next grade with confidence and joy.
On the first day back after the holidays, we embarked on a delightful bus trip to the park. The children’s laughter filled the air as they reunited with their friends, shaking off the winter chill by running and playing on the playground equipment!
We kicked off a new unit this week, diving into one of their favorite themes: “Transportation.” The classroom sparkled with excitement, featuring an array of train and car toys, interactive workstations about vehicles, and a craft area where the children could unleash their creativity using scrap materials.
During our UOI lesson, we conducted an assessment to see the children’s prior knowledge. When we posed the question: “What is Transportation?” they enthusiastically shouted answers such as “Car! Truck! Fire engine! Train! Dump truck!” When we asked them about the vehicles they took to school and the park, it was heartening to see the children demonstrate a clear understanding of their daily commutes. They examined illustrations of various rides and identified their names and the environments in which they are found—land, sky, and sea. While some were familiar with the names of the rides, all of our Canyon friends successfully sorted the ride cards into the correct categories!
Despite the chilly weather, we made the most of our time outdoors this week! Many children enjoyed playing with the “pokkuri,” a gift from Santa Claus. Balancing on the toy provided them with a wonderful opportunity to strengthen their balance and core muscles.
For craft time, we created a top from a paper cup as a fun New Year’s toy. We revisited safety rules and scissors handling, then cut and decorated the cups with crayons. The children also crafted the tops’ cores using origami paper. They had a blast watching the vibrant rainbow of colors come to life as they spun their paper cup tops!
Ms. Jessica joined us this week while Ms. Aiza was away, and the Canyon friends thoroughly enjoyed her company. She read picture books and worked on crafts with the children, creating wonderful memories. We hope to see her back soon!
Thank you for reading our blog.Have a wonderful long weekend!
