Hello everyone! Welcome to Milky Way’s last blog of June. It seems like it was just yesterday when the students began their inquiry into the environment and the 3Rs. Time surely does fly by fast. Unit 1 is officially over and it will be time to prepare for Unit 2 soon.

皆さん、こんにちは！ミルキーウェイの6月最後のブログへようこそ。MWのみんなが環境と3Rについて探究し始めたのが、つい昨日のことのように思えます。時が経つのは本当に早いですね。ユニット1は正式に終了し、もうすぐユニット2の準備が始まります。

They had a discussion about what plants need to grow and then they tried to figure out why plants need water, sunlight, air and soil. The ideas shared during the discussion showed that these young learners are knowledgeable, thinkers and communicators.

生徒たちは植物の成長に何が必要なのかについて話し合い、次に植物がなぜ水、日光、空気、土壌を必要とするのかを考えました。話し合いの中で共有された彼らのアイデアは、MWの小さな学習者たちは知識が豊富で、思考力とコミュニケーション能力に優れていることを示していました。６月初めの頃から比べて、私たちのきゅうりと大根はどうなったかな？MW「たくさん成長した！葉っぱがとっても大きくなったよ！キュウリの花が咲いた！」などたくさんの意見がありました。そして次の週にはどんなふうになっているかなと言う質問に「きゅうりはきっともっと伸びてる！つるがもっと長くなってるかな。大根の葉っぱはもう育たないかな。ベイビーキュウリがなってるかも！」など色々な意見が飛び交い、とても嬉しく思います。みんなThinkerやCommunicatorですね👏そして最後に何か質問はあるかな？と聞くと、「きゅうり（つる）はどうやってネットに登っていくのがわかるの？」と言う難しい質問が出ました。みんなで、どうしてだろう？？と考えましたが、答えが出てこなかったので自分たちの宿題にしました。Inquirerもいました👏

For this week’s phonics lesson they learned about magic e in o_e words. They fished for words that contain o_e in them and had to read them out aloud for everyone.

今週のフォニックスの授業では、o_eで始まる単語の「マジックe」について学びました。o_eを含む単語を探し出し、全員の前で声に出して読み上げました。

To revise the vocabulary that was introduced to them on Monday, they did a cut and paste activity where they had to look at a picture, figure out what o_e word it is and then cut and paste the appropriate letters to form a word.

月曜日に紹介された語彙を復習するために、生徒たちはカットアンドペーストのアクティビティを行いました。これは、絵を見てそれが何の単語かを考え、適切な文字を切り取って貼り付け、単語を作るというものです。

The recent hot and humid weather has been quite brutal on everyone. The students eagerly ask If there will be time for water/mud play everyday!

最近の暑さと湿気は、みんなにとってとても過酷ですね。生徒たちは毎日「今日は水遊び・泥遊びの時間はある？」と熱心に聞いてきます！

The show and tell sessions are still going strong. This week we saw and heard about interesting things some individuals brought from home. Someone brought a sling shot made from chopsticks, rubber bands and sellotape. He even showed everyone how to shoot papers with it. It’s a great way for the students to wrap up their day. Thank you for the cooperation and support you show by allowing them to bring things from home.

ショー・アンド・テルのセッションは相変わらず盛況です。今週は、みんなが自宅から持ってきた面白いものを見て、その物についてのコメントを聞きました。箸、輪ゴム、セロテープで作ったパチンコを持ってきた人もいました。彼は、それを使って紙を撃つ方法まで教えてくれました。生徒たちにとって、一日を締めくくる素晴らしい機会となっています。自宅からの持ち込みを許可していただき、ご協力とご支援をいただき、ありがとうございます。ユニット探究に関わる物も大歓迎ですので、お家で吟味しお子さんに持たせていただければと思います。

Tennis

テニスでは水分補給をしっかりしながら、ボールとラケットになれる練習を楽しく続けています。

The week ahead (June 30th~July 4th)

The teachers will plan and prepare for Unit 2 next week so the next unit will officially begin on July 7th.Pool play begins on July 1st, so the students will spend most of their afternoons in the water.

来週は先生方がユニット2の計画と準備を行い、次のユニットは7月7日に正式に開始されます。プール遊びは7月1日から始まるので、生徒たちは午後のほとんどを水の中で過ごすことになります。
