This week in our Personal Growth and Changes unit, Grade 4 students focused on understanding their own identities. We used tools like the Identity Frayer Model and Identity Circles to help students think about what makes them who they are, including their values, culture, hobbies, and personal traits.

今週の「個人の成長と変化」ユニットでは、4年生が自分自身のアイデンティティを理解することに取り組みました。アイデンティティ・フレイヤーモデルやアイデンティティ・サークルといったツールを使って、自分を形作っている価値観、文化、趣味、性格的特徴について考えました。

Students then shared their Identity Circles in small groups. Each person explained their circle while classmates practiced important communication skills: paraphrasing, asking thoughtful questions, and giving kind compliments. It was wonderful to see everyone listening carefully and appreciating each other’s unique qualities. These activities are helping students build empathy, self-awareness, and stronger connections with one another.

その後、小グループで自分のアイデンティティ・サークルを共有し合いました。一人ひとりが自分のサークルを説明し、聞く側の友だちは言い換え、質問をする、優しい褒め言葉を伝えるといった大切なコミュニケーションスキルを練習しました。みんなが真剣に聞き合い、お互いの個性を尊重する姿がとても素晴らしかったです。こうした活動を通して、生徒たちは共感力や自己理解、そして友だちとのつながりを深めています。

Art Class – Portrait Practice

In art class this week, students continued exploring identity through creative expression. They practiced sketching and watercolor painting portraits of their classmates. This activity wasn’t just about technique—it was about learning to see one another, noticing expressions and details that make each person unique.

By practicing with friends’ faces first, students are developing both their artistic skills and their empathy. This experience will help prepare them for next week’s big challenge: painting a self-portrait that reflects who they are. It’s a perfect way to tie our exploration of identity to creative, personal expression!

今週の美術の時間では、クリエイティブな表現を通じてアイデンティティを探ることを続けました。生徒たちはクラスメートの顔をスケッチし、水彩絵の具でポートレートを描く練習をしました。この活動は単なる技法の練習だけでなく、相手をよく見ること、表情やその人らしさを捉えることを学ぶ時間でもありました。

Tanabata

This week, the students wrote their Tanabata messages, sharing their wishes and dreams on colorful strips of paper. It was a lovely activity that let everyone express their hopes for the future while celebrating this special Japanese tradition.

今週は、みんなで七夕の短冊に願いごとを書きました。カラフルな紙に自分の夢や希望を込めて、日本の素敵な伝統を楽しみながら心を込めて作りました。
