Closing out Unit 1!!

Hello everyone, I hope that you are doing well today. Its been a very busy and eventful unit 1 for grade 2, as we’ve been learning about weather patterns and seasons. The students have learned quite a number of things and topics, such as the different seasons, and the weather, the past climates such as the ice age, and the climates during the Mesozoic era, and we’ve been learning about the impact of the weather and climates.

On Tuesday, the grade 4 students along with Mr. Ezra, visited grade 2 to make us some ice cream! The purpose of this was to show how kinetic energy can be used to make ice cream, and it was delicious!!! The grade 4s were quite knowledgeable and were risk-takers in this.

On Wednesday, we watched a DVD about dinosaurs and the Mesozoic era and this was quite important in our unit 1 learning journey as we wanted to compare the different climates between the ice age and the Mesozoic era. The students were quite knowledgeable for this task, and open-minded. This was also important, as it was a student who suggested watching this, and this was great student agency.

Thursday, grade 2 closed off unit 1 by creating their own book on weather patterns and seasons. This book focused on different things, such as the impact of the weather on the clothes we wear, food and animals. We also completed our reflection sheet, and both activities required us to be reflective.

Friday, we thought it would be great for us to clean up and sort out our UOI portfolios, and move our unit 1 work into our yearly portfolio, which the students showed great balance to complete. We also had our annual class photo, for which the students looked adorable for! Next, we look forward to unit 2, Family Structures and Community Roles! Salutations!
