みなさん、こんにちは。
今年の節分は2月2日で休日に当たる為、スクールでは1月31日に節分のイベントが行われました！この一週間、私達は「節分」の意味や意義について知ったり、クラフトで作った恵方巻を食べるフリをしたり、みんなで新聞紙で作った豆で鬼退治の練習をしたりと折に触れては「節分」について考え、話してきました。そして今日のアフタヌーンサークルの時間！ついに鬼が教室に現れました！突然の鬼の出現に子ども達は恐怖で大騒ぎでした。当然、泣き出す子もいましたが、びっくりして動けずにいる子や、果敢にも豆を投げて立ち向かう子もいました。勇気を振り絞って「鬼はそと～！福はうち～！」と鬼と向かい合いました。レインボーの勇敢な子ども達に驚いた鬼はすぐに降参して退散していきました。
子ども達には、悪いことや悲しいことがないように「鬼は外～！」と言って鬼を追い出し、嬉しいや楽しいことがあるように「福は内～！」と言って豆を投げるんだよと話しました。はたして鬼はどこからやってくるのか…難しい課題です。私なりの解釈になりますが、鬼は「ごはんを残す子いないかな？！」「お昼寝しない子いないかな？」「お友達と仲良くしているかな？」「お片付けや着替えが出来ない子はいないかな？」そんな子いたら食べちゃうぞ～！ってみんなを見ているんだよと説明しました。実は鬼はみんなの心（心がけ）次第で追い払えるのだと…。それが心に響いたのか否か、子ども達はランチを残さず食べ、お片付けも着替えも時間内にできました！
This year, Setsubun is on February 2, which is a national holiday, so our school held a Setsubun event on January 31! During this week, we learned about the meaning and significance of Setsubun, pretended to eat Ehomaki that we made in craft lesson, practiced killing ONI monster with beans made from newspapers, and thought about and talked about Setsubun from time to time. And now it’s time for afternoon circle! Finally, the ONI Monster appeared! Our children were frightened and made a big fuss when the ONI suddenly appeared. Naturally, some children started crying, but some were so surprised that they couldn’t move, and some bravely threw beans to face the ONI. They mustered their courage and faced the ONI, shouting, “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” (Demons out! Luck in!). Surprised by the brave Rainbow children, the ONI quickly surrendered and retreated.
I told the children that they should drive out the ONI by saying “Oni wa soto!” (Demons out!) so that nothing bad or sad will happen to them and throw beans by saying “Fuku wa uchi!” (Luck in!) so that they will have happiness and fun. Where does the ONI come from? It’s a difficult question. In my own interpretation, the ONI is watching everyone, wondering, “Is there anyone who leaves any food on their plate?!” “Is there anyone who won’t take a nap?” “Are they getting along with their friends?” “Is there anyone who can’t clean up or get changed?” If there are any like that, I’ll eat them up! I explained. In fact, the ONI can be driven away depending on everyone’s heart (attitude). Whether this resonated with them or not, our children ate all their lunch, cleaned up, and got changed in time!
「節分」は旧暦の年越しにあたります。今年は2月2日が「節分」で冬の終わりを告げる日です。そして2月3日は「立春」で春の始まる日です。「春」はその響きだけでも心踊り、温かな気持ちになるのが不思議ですね。暖かな日差しと草花の芽吹き、卒業や入学といった新しいスタートの季節。愛するレインボーの子ども達と出会った去年の「春」を感慨深く思い出し、今、大きく成長した姿に感動しています。お友達と仲良く遊び、お互いを思いやり、様々な活動にチャレンジして、レインボーの子ども達はもうオーロラに向かって羽ばたく準備が整っています。
Setsubun is the New Year’s Eve of the lunar calendar. This year, Setsubun falls on February 2, announcing the end of winter. And February 3 is Risshun, the beginning of spring. It’s amazing how just the sound of “spring” makes your heart dance and warm your heart. It’s the season of warm sunshine, budding flowers, graduations and new beginnings. I fondly recall last year’s “spring” when I met my beloved Rainbow children, and am moved by how much they have grown. Playing together with their friends, caring for each other, and taking on various activities, the Rainbow children are ready to soar into the aurora.
今月のトピック「乗り物」の学びも今週で終わりました。たくさんの乗り物を知った子ども達は公園や散歩で見つけた乗り物を得意気に教えてくれるまでになりました。今週は、先生の言う行き先に合った乗り物を探して移動するアクティビティーを楽しみました。例えば「急いで病院に行かなきゃ！」と言うと、生徒は救急車のカードを選びピーポーピーポーと走りました。「ハワイに行きたいなあ」と言えば、飛行機のカードを選びビューンと飛んでいきました。子ども達は乗り物の名前のみならず、その役割についても理解しています。そんな子ども達を応援するかのように青空にはヘリコプターが飛んでいました。
This week marked the end of this month’s topic, “Transportations.” Our children learned about many transportations and proudly told us about them found in the park or on walks. This week, they enjoyed an activity where they would search for a transportation that matched the destination the teacher told them to go to and move around in a whirring motion. For example, when I said, “I have to hurry to the hospital!”, a student chose an ambulance card and ran off with a loud ‘peep, peep, peep’ sound. When I said, “I want to go to Hawaii,” a student chose an airplane card and flew off in a whirring motion. Our children not only knew the names of the transportations, but also their roles. As if to cheer on the children, a helicopter was flying in the blue sky.
あやこ先生がクラスに来てくれました。楽しい「乗り物」のアクティビティーを楽しんだ後は、あや子先生の運転するバスに乗って楽しく歌い、踊りました。とても楽しい時間で子ども達は大喜びでした。あやこ先生、ありがとうございました！
Ms.Ayako Sensei came to our class. After enjoying the fun “Transportations” activity, we rode on the bus driven by Ms.Ayako and sang and danced happily. It was a very fun time, and our children were very happy. Thank you Ms.Ayako!
