Nagano Shooting Star: Meeting More Community Helpers (Feb. 20th-24th, 2023)

We met two more community helpers this week.

On Monday, we met an apple farmer. He told us a lot about his job. He harvests two kinds of apples– the Fuji apple and Shinano Gold. He uses different equipment in his orchard to maintain the apple trees and to harvest the produce. We asked him how he became an apple farmer and he said that he inherited the orchard from his grandparents and that he went to school to learn how to grow apples. He is a community helper. He helps keep the community healthy by supplying fresh apples and different apple products.

Thank you for keeping us healthy!

On Friday, we met a family doctor and yoga instructor! She talked about what and how doctors do their job. Doctors follow a step by step procedure to make sure that we are safe and healthy. First, they take the history of the patient, second, they do physical assessment, conduct some tests, diagnose, then finally, treat the patient. She mentioned that doctors work with their team, too, like medical assistants, therapists, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, patient, and family. Just like what we do, we practice team work. We got to use the stethoscope to hear our heartbeat and lungs sound, and the pulse oximeter to check our oxygen level in our blood. Another exciting part was we were able to do yoga. It was relaxing. Yoga keeps us healthy and fit.

Thank you for keeping us safe and healthy!

Craft

We made a Girls’ Day craft that is celebrated on the 3rd of March. We used different materials to make this craft.

Work Station

We had two work stations this week. First is the weaving station where we used colored paper and white construction paper to weave a purse and/ or colored the mittens. This is to develop our fine motor skills. The other one was dramatic play station where we opened our restaurant. We played as chefs, servers, cashiers, and customers.

Play Time!
