What a marvelous blessing it is to have a “real” police officer visiting our class this week! The children were all thrilled when they learned that one of their friend’s mother, who is a police officer, is going to visit and talk to us about the role and responsibilities of police officers and how they work together as a team. The children really enjoyed and listened attentively to the details. They had long discussions and asked many questions. Everyone was fascinated by the tools that the police officers carried. Children got to try on the hand cuffs, felt the baton, saw the police officer’s badge, and took turns to wear the female police officer’s hat. When the special guest was asked, “why do you want to be a police?” She left that question for the children who want to become a police officer to answer. The children’s response was “because it looks cool and I can help other people.” Everyone nodded as the special guest added, “yes, it not only looks cool to wear the police officer uniform, more importantly we can assist and help people. But we cannot do anything alone, all the police officers work together to achieve a goal. Teamwork is very important.” We could not be more thankful for the kindness and loads of great information we all have received that day about the police officers! Million thanks!!
今週、なんと嬉しいことに本物の警察官の方がクラスを訪問してくださいました！あるクラスメートのお母さまが警察官で、ご自身のお仕事の役割や責任、チームとしての働き方などについて話してくれることになり、子どもたちは大喜び！みんな特別ゲストの訪問をずっと楽しみにしていて、当日はお話の内容を熱心に聞き、たくさん質問をしていました。警察官の使う道具を見せていただいたときはみんなもう大興奮！大変ありがたいことにみんなにも触らせてくださり、順番に手錠をかけたり、警棒を持ったり、警察官のバッジを見たり、帽子をかぶったりなど、貴重な経験をさせていただきました。子どもたちから「どうして警察官になりたいと思ったの？」という質問が出た際には、警察官になりたいと思っている子どもたちに「みんなはどうしてなりたいと思いますか？」と答えさせてくださいました。みんなの答えは「かっこいいし、人の役に立てるから！」でした。 その後、「そうですね！警察官の制服を着ているとかっこいいだけでなく、人を助けたりすることができるのが重要です。でも、一人では何もできません。警察官はみんなで協力して目的を達成します。チームワークがとても大切なのです！」と教えていただき、IBのUnit2の探究テーマ、役割、責任、チームワークに関する学びをしっかり深めることが出来ました！ 今回、お忙しい中快くゲストスピーカーをお引き受けくださったお優しさに、これ以上ないほど感謝しています。ありがとうございました！！
Children have been learning about the silent E in the phonic lessons. They helped sort words into long vowels or short vowels due to the ending letter E. The group leaders helped his/her teammates sorted and everyone all worked together. They have also practiced writing words by hearing their leaders reading the words and decoded by blending the sounds. The morning speed sound practice was also helped the children improve on their phonic blending skills. As we proceed with our phonic lessons, I am sure the children will be able to become more fluent readers!
フォニックスの授業では、サイレントE （単語の末尾にあって発音しない（サイレントな）E ）について学びました。グループに分かれてリーダーがチームを助け、みんなで協力して単語の持つ母音を読み方（長音か短音か） で分けました。また、リーダーが読むのを聞いて単語を書く練習をしたり、音をつないで読む練習をしたりしました。また、朝のフラッシュカードを使った練習でも、各アルファベットの持つ音をつないで読むスキルを向上させることができました。 今後、さらにフォニック・レッスンを進めていくことで、子どもたちの読みがより流暢になることでしょう。
During the math lesson, the children string 10 beads into a string that is called a “ten bar”. They will be learning how to count by 10 by using the ten bars. After they have worked diligently, we counted and added up all the ten bars and the total was 640 beads stinged! They were all excited to see what an amazing job they can accomplish when they worked together!
Mathの授業では、子どもたちは10個のビーズを「テン・バー」と呼ばれる紐に通し、10の数え方を学びました。子どもたちが熱心に取り組んだ後、すべてのテン・バーを数えて合計すると、640個もビーズを使って64個のテン・バーが完成していました。「みんなで力を合わせれば、こんなにすごいことができるんだ！」と興奮していました。
UOI lessons are getting more challenging and fun as each day we build up on the knowledge of community workers, roles and responsibilities, and the importance of teamwork. The children made a community map by drawing some of the things they think are important to a community, as well as, places for the community workers to work at. They added other houses, plants, parks, cars, trucks, and road signs. We will be adding some people to the map next week. Before the long weekend, we talked about the children’s roles at home. We discussed what are some of the things that they do to help out in their house. They drew the chores they do at home on a regular basis, and will be checked by their parents over the long weekend. We cannot wait to take a look at everyone’s result after we come back!
UOIの授業は、地域で働く人々の知識、役割と責任、チームワークの重要性などの探究を日ごとに積み重ねることで、よりチャレンジングで楽しいものになっています。 子どもたちは、地域にとって重要だと思われるものや場所を描いて、コミュニティ・マップを作りました。家、植物、公園、車、トラック、道路標識などを描き加えました。来週は人々を地図に追加する予定です。 4連休の前に、お家での子どもたちの役割について話し、どんなお手伝いをしているのかを話して普段から家でやっていることを絵に描きました。宿題のご協力よろしくお願いいたします。週明け、みんなの結果を見るのが楽しみです！
