ISN Music Concert was AMAZING! It was a showcase of the year’s hard work our dear Savanna students have put in with the Japanese music teacher. Their pianica playing and the Mushroom Song were skillfully delivered to a delighted audience. Fantastic job Savanna!

Matsumoto’s winter show was much appreciated too. We had snow in our schoolyard. Though much of it was slushy snow, there was still much fun to be had! Savanna: “Look, ice! I can make snowballs. What is this long ice? Oh no, the snow is melting.” We discussed about ice and water. When it gets warmer above zero degrees Celsius, the ice and snow will melt. When it is below zero degrees Celsius, water turns back to ice. We ‘ate’ snow cones too.

We are wrapping up our IB unit on community helpers. Each student self-assessed what he or she had learned. Each student was also asked by the teacher for their reflection on the unit – “we have done so much activities and learned so much. What did you like doing?” Savanna: “I liked wearing the builder helmet in class. I can be the chef in the Ramen shop. I like cooking the food. We went to the police station… that was fun. For Open Day, Mummy and Daddy (were) here. I was happy. The ABC jobs, letter sounds on the wall… I like the pictures and singing letter sounds.”

We started on our last group of 14 Jump Out Words – all, if, an, can, am, us, me, is, my, get, did, go, I, a. We also reviewed the other 36 words. We tried speed reading and spelling these words. We worked on getting some confusing letters right like ‘b’ and ‘d’. Using our fingers, we made letters b, d in the word “bed”. For writing letter ‘b’, think of b like a bat and a ball. For writing letter ‘d’, think of a drum and the stick.
We drew 2D shapes and made 3D cubes and cuboids. Six squares make a cube and six rectangles made a cuboid. Savanna made ice cubes, cheese cubes and boxes! Till next week, have a great weekend.
