Small Improvements! MW 7/22-7/26

“Small daily improvements over time creates stunning results.” –Robin S. Sharma

The Milky Way class has been working on setting and achieving goals in our UOI lessons. These days, they have been getting used to writing their goals in the morning and try to work on it during the day. During our reflection time, I could see how students are improving on sharing about their goals and what they did to achieve it. Their writing skills are also improving a lot. They can use capital letters in the beginning of the sentence, use finger space, use punctuation marks, and write the letters properly in their notebook. They also try to spell the words by themselves.

In our class, we always use four faces in different colors (red, yellow, green, blue) to assess the students which is also similar to SOLO Taxonomy rubric. Most of the students are already familiar with how it works or the idea of using it to assess them and sometimes they try to think about what each color represents. So, we challenged them to make their own rubric regarding LOI1:Setting and achieving goals. I was surprised with their ideas and how they worked together to make the rubric. It was simple but very meaningful because it was the students’ ideas and work.

On Wednesday, we practiced their performance at the gym and we finally completed all the dance steps. Most of them were able to remember the dance steps they practiced last time. The teacher took video of their practice and the next day we watched it, reviewed the goals they set for the practice and performance for the Sports Festival, and reflected if they were able to achieve their goals. According to them, in the first video, some students were playing around, not listening to the teachers, and had a conflict with friends. When we watched the second video, they said that most of them did their job, danced well, listened to the teachers, and showed teamwork. “To have a beautiful and cool performance, we will practice more and show more teamwork.”

After a month, we were glad to go back to the farm where we planted sweet potatoes. We were surprised how it grew with long vines and big leaves. We want to be part of its growth, so we watered them. The Milky Way students were very curious how it grew, so they asked many questions to the farmer and found out lots of answers. We also had fun playing at the nearby park. It was our first time to play in this park with our friends. We want to go back here again, next time!
