Interviewing Foreigners! MW 11/11-11/15

Autumn leaves are everywhere and they are as colorful and beautiful as our field trip to Matsumoto City Museum, Matsumoto Castle park to conduct an interview related to our UOI lessons.🍁

On Monday, the Milky Way students went on a field trip which is related to our UOI, countries around the world and their home country Japan. First, we went to the Matsumoto City Museum wherein, they discovered the history of Matsumoto and various Japanese cuisines. We saw the Japanese traditional foods we learned in our UOI lessons. We enjoyed seeing lots of food which really looked real and delicious!🍱🍡

Next stop was the Matsumoto Castle. We had a picnic under the trees and took a little rest before proceeding to interview the tourists or foreigners around the castle. That day was perfect timing for us because there were many tourists who visited the castle. At first, they were a little shy to talk to the foreigners but after some time, it became easy for them to identify who is a foreigner and interviewed them. The tourists they interviewed were from France, England, Germany, Thailand, Australia, USA, Canada, Indonesia, Brazil, and Greece. They couldn’t hide their reactions everytime they hear a familiar country and what they like in Japan. Everybody had just so much fun speaking to the foreigners. It was also our first time to ride on the train as a class and it was such a wonderful memory for us. When we came back to school, each group shared about their interview and their memorable experience.🏯🌍🚉

In our LOI3, we learned about how the Philippines and Mexico celebrate Halloween. And we found some similarities and differences between them. Both countries remember their dead loved ones during Halloween, but they use different terms instead of saying Halloween. The dates they celebrate it are also different. Somehow they do similar things such as offering flowers and food, and putting pictures of their dead loved ones and candles at their special altar or grave. We made a craft which is a popular food in the Philippines during Halloween called sticky rice cakes in banana leaf. And we started making a paper mache mask which is popular to wear in Mexico during their Halloween parade. Making paper mache masks is also related to our reading lesson which is about fun with paper. 🎭

Next week, we will learn about Christmas around the world. Let’s find out how other countries celebrate Christmas. That’s all for this week! Have a nice weekend!🤗
