This week we visited the Post Office as part of our inquiry about “How community helpers help us”. Before the said visit, students write a postcard to their parents for Valentine’s Day and they prepared and practiced the questions that they wanted to ask to the postal service community helpers. As soon as we arrived the vicinity, the Post office staff welcomed us warmly and took us to the room on the third floor where we all watched the video of the postal service work flow from the sender of the letters and parcels down to the receiver. After watching the video, the staff took us down to the work area where the letters and parcels are being sorted out. The postal service community helpers were very welcoming to us. They greeted us with a warm smile and a wave and we did the same. We walked through the area where our postcards for our parents where being stamped with an automatic stamp machine by the stamp man. Then, we came to the area where a huge high speed letter sorting machine was situated. How cool that was! The mail operator fed the letters and parcels with different sizes into the machine feeder and we saw how speedy they travelled under the machine and distributed up to different small bins. Students were leaping for joy and amazement while looking at the speedy motion. Thereafter, the staff took us to the other side to see the postal motorcycle. Guess what? The post bear was waiting for us there! How lovely it was to see the post bear with the mail carriers waiting to welcome us. What a great surprise! When the staff told us that we could actually get closer to the post bear, we quickly approached it with our hearts filled with happiness and gratitude. We hugged, touched, and patted it. Then, we took pictures and bid farewell with big smiles. Following that, we went back to the room and we asked questions to the staff with the questions that we prepared beforehand. All the information that we wanted to inquire and learn on our visit were adequately answered by the postal service staff. Before we went down, the staff took us to another room to get our presents. Each one got a plastic bag with different postal items inside. Many thanks from Shooting Star class. Finally, we headed out down to the first floor and got on the bus. We departed the post office waving our hands to the community helpers. What a wonderful experience we had!

今週は松本南郵便局へ見学に出かけました。出かける前日、子ども達は準備していたポストカードにメッセージを書きました。当初は自分へのお手紙、でしたが、来週はバレンタイン！ということから、家族にバレンタインのメッセージを書きましょうということになりました。葉書にメッセージを先生に手伝ってもらいながら書き、自分の好きな絵を添えました。子ども達の気持ちをお受け取り下さい。また、郵便局員さんへの質問も事前に考えました。子ども達からでた質問を紙に書き、練習も何度かして準備しました。当日は郵便局の方々に温かく迎えてもらいました。３階に案内してくれ、まず郵便物がどのように各家庭まで届けられるのかを教えてくれるDVDを観ました。その後は、郵便物が実際に仕分けされる様子を見せていただきました。館内で会う局員さんたちはみんな優しい笑顔で手を振ってくださり、子ども達も笑顔で手を振り返してご挨拶！子ども達が準備していた葉書を担当者に渡すと、一枚一枚に消印スタンプを押してくれました。大きな郵便区分機もとっても近くで見せていただきました。お手紙が機械の中に入ると、ものすごいスピードで機械の中を通り、各地域別になったポケットの中にアッという間に区分されます。子ども達はこのあまりにも早いスピードに大喜び！「しんかんせんみたいー」とコメントしている子や、飛び跳ねて全身で興奮と喜びを表現している子、大きな機会に釘付けになる子など様々な表情が見られました！その後は配達バイクを見るために別の場所へと案内をしてくださいました。郵便バイクとともに待っていたのは、とてもかわいいポスクマさんでした。子ども達はポスクマさんに迎えられ、郵便バイクそっちのけでポスクマさんへとまっしぐら！触ってみたり、ハグしたり、大興奮でした。ポスクマさんとさようならをした後は、DVDを観たお部屋に戻り、事前準備していた質問タイムとなりました。全員ではありませんでしたが、担当となった子ども達は一人ひとり前に立ち、質問をしました。郵便局スタッフの方は質問に丁寧に答えて下さいました。帰り際には子ども達一人一人へとお土産をいただきました。とても有意義な社会科見学となりました。

The weather was extremely cold but we beat the low temperature by putting on our hat and jacket and walked to the park. We played for a little while in the park and went back to school. It was short but compact!

今週はとても冷えましたが、ジャケットや手袋をつけて公園へ出かけました。短い時間の公園遊びとなりましたが、楽しい時間を過ごしました。
