Nakano Grade 3/4/5 – Starting inquiry (April 14th-18th)

Welcome back to the Grade 3, 4, and 5 blog. We began our regular lessons this week, had our first emergency drill, andcontinued our inquiry into energy.

Inquiry (Energy)

This week in our inquiry lessons, we began exploring the central question: What is Energy? We kicked off the class with a lively discussion, where students shared their thoughts, followed by an activity using the Frayer Model to deepen their understanding of the word “energy.” We created a large mind map on the blackboard with keywords like heat, light, motion, and sound. Students then made their own smaller versions in their notebooks, adding personal examples.

We also had a lesson on energy sources, focusing on the difference between renewable and non-renewable types. After that, the class was divided into groups, and each was assigned an energy source—solar, wind, hydro, fossil fuels, or geothermal. The students worked collaboratively to research their topic and create an informative poster.

To finish the week, each group presented their findings to the class, sharing what they had learned in a clear and creative way. It was a fun and engaging start to our new unit!

Music lesson

This week, they had their first music lesson of the school year! Everyone was excited to get started. The class enjoyed a fun and active rhythm activity, where they moved around like different animals to the piano music played by the teacher. It was a lively and engaging start to our music lessons!
