RICE PLANTING- Rainforest June 9th-13th – International School of Nagano

Rice planting activities offer numerous benefits for kids, including promoting a sense of responsibility and connection with nature. This activity can also help children appreciate the effort involved in food production and reduce food waste. Additionally, it helps them understand how food is grown, from planting seeds to harvesting, fostering a deeper understanding of their food sources.

Rainforestさん達は、手で行う田植え体験をしてきました。「楽しかったー！」という子もいれば、「泥の感触が気持ち悪かった」と、素直な気持ちを教えてくれる子もいました。この貴重な体験を通して、自然とのつながり、生産者の方たちへの感謝の気持ち、無駄な食べ物を減らそうという気持ちを得ることが出来ました。また、毎日食べているお米がどのように育つのかを知るきっかけにもなりました。

This week, we had one of our little one’s parents as our guest speakers in our unit of inquiry. They shared what they do at Value Books, such as donating various books to different schools and recycling broken books. They also talked about where the paper is made and how to reuse books to save trees and mountains. According to them, we can reborn books by turning them into cardboard boxes, toilet paper, new books, etc. We also learned how to recycle books by watching some videos. After that, we made a craft where the students created a small book using recycled paper. Everyone enjoyed this activity, and they were excited to bring home the book they made and show it to their parents.

今週は、Rainforestさんの保護者の方に来ていただき、経営されている株式会社バリューブックスで行っている本のリサイクルについてお話をしていただきました。クイズ形式で、本の材料になる紙は何で出来ているか、森から木がなくなってしまうとどのような事が起こるか等について、子ども達に問いかけながらお話をしていただき、すでにたくさんの知識を持っている子どもたちは自分たちの意見もきちんとシェアすることが出来ました。紙の原料である木を守るために、本を大切に使う事、またリサイクル出来るものはバリューブックスさんのような、リサイクル機関に持っていこうと教えてもらいました。最後に本から再生された紙を一枚ずついただき、小さな本を作る工作をしました。自分たちの本が出来たことに、子どもたちは大喜び！好きな絵を描いて、お家の方に見せるのを楽しみにしていました。

We had a collaborative trip again with the Milky Way class from Minami Campus, where we visited Econecol Azumino Plaza last week. Econecol collects 800 tons of paper from each Mottainai station in the Azumino and Matsumoto areas. The paper is sorted into cardboard boxes, newspapers, and advertisement paper and will be compiled into a cube shape using a large machine. The compiled paper cubes will be transferred to another factory to make new paper. Here’s a glimpse of our trip.

先週は、株式会社エコネコル安曇野プラザに南松本キャンパスのMilky Wayクラスのお友達と一緒に見学に行ってきました。エコネコルでは、安曇野市や松本市などにある「もったいないBOX」で集められた物が、毎日８００トンも集まるそうです。子どもたちは集められた段ボール紙、新聞紙、広告紙が大きな機械でキューブ状にまとめられる様子や、それらを運ぶフォークリフトに乗る体験をさせてもらい大興奮！もう一つの建物では、洗濯機、パソコン、テレビなどの家電を解体する様子を見せてもらいました。疑問に思った事をたくさん質問しながらリサイクルする過程を知ることが出来ました。

In our phonics lesson, we started learning about “magic e.” Our youngsters are enjoying this because they can make the new sound of a word just by adding the magic e. For our activity, each student chose a word, added the magic e, and read it in front of the class. Well done, everyone!

フォニックスレッスンでは、「マジックe」の言葉を学び始めました。「マジックe」とは、ｍake、 cape、pineなど、単語の最後につくeを読まず、その前につく母音をアルファベット読みする単語のことです。最後にeを付けるだけでまったく違う言葉に変身する言葉を読むことを、みんな楽しんでいます。レッスンでは、ＣＶＣ単語が書かれた紙を一人ずつ選び、それにeをつけた言葉をみんなの前で読みました。みんなよく頑張りましたね。
