Our highlights for this week – Shiga Fossil Museum and Doggie Visit! Canyon was really excited about the museum visit. We learned to say ‘I am so excited!’ We had a pre-field trip discussion. I asked the class, “where can we go to see animals?” Some students replied, “zoo!” “Yes, but we can also go to a museum. The animals there do not move. Freeze!” Each student was asked what they wanted to see… penguin, rabbit, koala, lion, jellyfish, dog, polar bear and more.

今週の目玉は、四賀化石博物館に行ったことと、ペットとのふれ合い活動です！博物館見学はキャニオンさんがずっと楽しみにしていたフィールドトリップでした！数日前から’I am so excited!’とワクワクした気持ちを英語で練習したりもしました。このフィールドトリップに行く前、クラスでディスカッションをしました。 “where can we go to see animals?”（動物を見にどこへ行くと思う？） という質問に、何名かは”zoo!”（動物園！）と答えていました。そうです、動物園、でも今回は博物館に行くんだよ。そこにいる動物たちは、動かないんだよ、じっとしたままなの！と伝えました。先生にどの動物が見たい？と聞かれ、penguinペンギン, rabbitウサギ, koalaコアラ, lionライオン, jellyfishクラゲ, dog犬, polar bear白くま などなど、答えてくれました。

Canyon was in for an amazing treat. The museum’s blue lighting created an underwater world! A great big whale skeleton greeted us. On the first floor, we saw a family of sea lions and sharks’ teeth. As we swam out of the ocean, we spotted land, up to the 2nd floor.

博物館でキャニオンさんは驚く体験をしました。博物館の天井は水色にライトアップされていて、まるで海の中にいるかのような世界でした。巨大なクジラの骨が子どもたちを迎えてくれました！一階では、アザラシの親子を見たり、サメの歯を見ました。この海の世界から出た後は、２階に移動しました。

Forest animals and polar animals welcomed us! Canyon went WILD! Canyon was really good at naming the animals in English. When they did not know, they asked “what is this?” Well done. The start of an inquiry is curiosity. Asking questions, and looking out for similarities and differences to further explore. One of the student’s keen observation: “This is the same… this is a leopard and this is a leopard too! But this is brown, and this is white!” She spotted a snow leopard and a jungle leopard. Great job.

２階では、森にいる動物や極地帯に生息する動物たちがキャニオンさん達を迎えてくれました。海の次は野生でした！！キャニオンさん、みんな英語で動物の名前をとても上手に言えていました。知らない動物がいると、”what is this?”と聞いてきます。Well done！質問の始まりは興味からです。質問をすること、類似や違いの発見は次の探究につながります！あるお友だちが一つの動物をじっと観察しながら、”This is the same… this is a leopard and this is a leopard too! But this is brown, and this is white!”と、白豹とジャングルに住む豹を比べていました。素晴らしいですね！

A pouncing lion with a sharp teeth and a big mane meant photo opportunities! Canyon posed saying: I’m not frightened. I’m brave. The animal sightings continued… bear, antelope, bison, alligator, penguin, polar bears, eagles, owls, fox and more! We had a roaring good time and ended our learning journey with a cool class photograph.

鋭い牙と大きなたてがみを持つ跳びかかるライオンは、絶好なフォトスポットでした！キャニオンさん達はポーズをとりながら、「怖くないよ。すごいでしょ！」と言うお友だちもいました。動物の観察は続きました…クマ、アンテロープ、バイソン、アリゲーター、ペンギン、ホッキョクグマ、ワシ、フクロウ、キツネなど！見学をとても楽しみ、フィールドトリップをクラス写真撮影をして締めくくりました。

We had a visit from Shiro-chan, one of Canyon’s students pet dog! This lovely white Shiba Inu is 2 years old and loves to eat watermelon. Canyon was thrilled to have this gentle dog visit us. Cute, kawaii! She showed us her handshakes and how she could sit nicely for her treat. She was a friendly dog and allowed us to pat her. She wagged her tail happily. She did not bark, not even once! We found out that she goes for walks twice a day and gets monthly baths. Thank you for visiting us, and sharing about how to take care of a pet dog. Till next week, have a great weekend!

キャニオンクラス、D君のお家のペット、シロちゃんがスクールにやってきました！とても可愛いシロは２歳の柴犬で、スイカが大好き！優しいシロちゃんの訪問にキャニオンさん達はドキドキしながらも、かわいい！と大喜びで訪問を歓迎していました。「おて」を披露してくれたり、おやつの「まて」を見せてくれました。とてもフレンドリーな犬で、触らせてもくれました！嬉しそうにしっぽを振ってくれました。吠えたりすることも一度もなく、とても穏やかな犬です。一日２度のお散歩に行き、月に一回のお風呂の習慣があるそうです。ご来園頂き、ペットについてシェアしてくださり、誠にありがとうございました。それでは来週まで、素敵な週末をお過ごしください。
