This week, our class conducted an outdoor pool earthquake drill to prepare our little ones for any natural disaster that might occur. Everyone did a great job following the rules, such as staying where they are, covering their heads, holding on to the pool’s frames until the shaking stops, and evacuating quickly from the pool with their teachers’ help. Well done, Rainforest!

今週、Rainforestクラスでは屋外プールでの地震避難訓練を行いました。万が一の自然災害に備えて、子どもたちと一緒に安全について学ぶ大切な時間となりました。訓練では、「その場で動かずに頭を守る」「プールの縁につかまる」「揺れが収まったら先生と一緒にすばやく避難する」などの約束を、みんなとてもよく守って行動することができました。しっかりとお話を聞いて、落ち着いて取り組む子どもたちの姿がとても頼もしかったです。Rainforestのみんな、よくがんばりました！
In our phonics lesson, we started learning about vowel teams like “ai,” “a-e,” and “ay.” This week, we focused on the long vowel /a/. We thought of words with a combined long vowel /a/ that make one sound. It was amazing that our young ones could think of and provide some examples. Great job!
今週のフォニックスのレッスンでは、「ai」「a-e」「ay」などの母音チーム（vowel teams）について学び始めました。今回は、Long a（長い“エイ”の音）に注目して活動しました。子どもたちは、母音チームの言葉をしっかり考え、Way, Holiday, Cake, Lane, Monday, Sayなど、素敵な単語をたくさん教えてくれましたよ！サークルタイムで歌っている歌も、大きな声で歌えるようになりました。お家でも是非一緒に歌ってみてください。
This week, we had our first-ever closing open day in the Rainforest class. Students ate their afternoon snack with their parents and had a fun afternoon circle time, where they listened to a Japanese story and played a game with their parents. To all the parents who came to our closing open day, thank you so much for your time. We truly appreciate your support in our various school activities.
今週、Rainforestクラスでは初めてのクロージングオープンデーを行いました。子どもたちは、お父さんやお母さんと一緒に午後のおやつを食べて、その後のサークルタイムでは日本語の絵本の読み聞かせや、一緒に楽しむゲームなど、楽しい時間を過ごしました。子ども達が日本語の昔話に親しみ、言葉遊びを楽しんでいる様子をご覧いただけたかと思います。お忙しい中のご参加、またゲームを一緒に盛り上げて下さってありがとうございました。
Teamwork in Japanese Class!
This week in our Japanese class, the Rainforest students had a fun and meaningful experience while practicing teamwork through a game-based activity! We played a “territory game” where children took turns reading hiragana characters — ones they’ve already learned how to read and write in previous lessons. After the first round, we introduced a “strategy time.” It was so inspiring to see each team discuss their plans together: some teams changed the order they stood in, others encouraged each other with phrases like “Let’s read faster!”, and many made thoughtful decisions about who would help friends that might need support. The Rainforest children are really beginning to understand what it means to work as a team! Later, we shifted our focus to carefully observing the hiragana “ろ” (ro) and “る” (ru) — two characters that look very similar. After noticing the small differences, everyone took their time to write them neatly in their workbooks. We are so proud of how well they are paying attention to the fine details, such as using the correct stops and hooks in their strokes. Great job, Rainforest!
日本語レッスンでも、チームワークを学ぶためのゲームをしています。これまでのレッスンで読み方と書き方を習った平仮名を、一文字ずつ読みながら行うテリトリーゲームです。2チームに分かれて1回目のゲームをした後に、作戦タイムを作りました。チームの中で話し合い、並ぶ順番を変えたり、「早く字を読もうね！」と話し合ったり、読めないお友達を誰がサポートするのかなどを決めていました。すでにRainforestさん達が、チームとしてどんな事を話し合うべきかわかっているようでした。今回は、「ろ」と「る」の平仮名の似ているところ、違うところをよく観察してから、ワークブックに丁寧に書きました。「はね」「とめる」などきちんと意識して字が書けるようになっています！
Matsumoto Bonbon Fun!
Last Saturday, many Rainforest students and families joined the Matsumoto Bonbon Festival. Despite the long two-hour Bon Odori, the children danced all the way through with big smiles! Thank you to all the parents for your wonderful support — it was a night to remember!
先週土曜日は、たくさんのRainforestさん、そして保護者の皆さんが松本ぼんぼんに参加してくださいました！およそ2時間という長い盆踊りでしたが、みんな最後まで笑顔で頑張りましたね！子ども達をサポートしてくださった皆様、ありがとうございました。思い出に残るイベントがまた増えましたね。
