Hello families and friends!
What a joyful and enriching week we’ve had in the Shooting Star class! From phonics fun and creative crafts to reconnecting with old friends and exploring the wonders of nature, the children have been busy learning, growing, and making meaningful connections. Here’s a peek into our exciting week together!
In our phonics lessons, we focused on CVC words with the short /i/ sound, exploring the “‑it” word family. The children practiced reading words such as sit, hit, bit, fit, wit, and kit. To make learning extra engaging, we played a lively game called Merry-Go-Round Readers. Word cards were arranged in a circle on the floor. As music played, the children danced around them, stopping to read a word aloud when the music paused. Cheers filled the classroom as everyone read their words correctly—and with great enthusiasm!

今週のシューティングスタークラスは、喜びと学びにあふれた一週間となりました！フォニックスの楽しいレッスンや創作活動に取り組んだり、久しぶりのお友だちと再会して交流を深めたり、自然の不思議を探求したりと、子どもたちはたくさんの学びと成長、そして心のつながりを育んでいました。今週の楽しい様子を少しご紹介しますね！
フォニックスのレッスンでは、短い /i/ の音を含む CVC 単語（子音-母音-子音）に取り組み、“-it” の単語ファミリーを学びました。「sit（すわる）」「hit（たたく）」「bit（かじった）」「fit（ぴったり）」「wit（知恵）」「kit（道具一式）」などの単語を読んで練習しました。さらに、学びをもっと楽しくするために「メリーゴーラウンド・リーダーズ」というゲームを行いました！単語カードを床に円形に並べ、音楽に合わせて子どもたちがそのまわりを踊りながら歩きます。音楽が止まると、止まった場所の単語を声に出して読み上げます。みんなが正しく、そしてとても元気よく単語を読めたときは、教室中に歓声が響きましたよ！
On Tuesday, we were overjoyed to welcome back our dear friend I, who returned from Canada. The classroom was filled with cheers of “I! I! I!” as the children embraced his return. After our morning circle, everyone had a wonderful time playing together outside and reconnecting with I.
火曜日には、カナダから帰ってきた大切なお友だちのIくんを、みんなで大歓迎しました！教室には「Iくん！Iくん！Iくん！」という歓声が響きわたり、子どもたちは再会を心から喜んでいました。朝のサークルタイムの後は、外で元気に遊びながら、みんなでIくんとの時間を楽しみました。
During our Unit of Inquiry (UOI), the Shooting Star students created thoughtful “Thank You” cards for the community helpers each group had chosen: police officers, farmers, and drivers. They worked collaboratively to decide:
探究の時間（Unit of Inquiry）では子どもたちが、それぞれのグループで選んだ地域の助け合いをしてくれている人たち（警察官、農家の方、運転手）に向けて、心のこもった「ありがとうカード」を作成しました。子どもたちは協力しながら、次のことを話し合って決めました：
- Who would trace the words
- Who would draw the pictures
- Who would write the community helper’s name
- What message they would include
It was a meaningful way to show gratitude and learn about people who help our communities thrive.
誰が文字のなぞり書きをするか
誰が絵を描くか
誰が地域の助けてくれる人の名前を書くか
どんなメッセージをカードに入れるか
子どもたちはこれらを話し合って決めました。
この活動は、感謝の気持ちを表すとともに、地域社会を支えてくれている人々について学ぶ、とても意義深い時間となりました。
With Grandparents’ Day coming up on Monday, the children made beautiful cards to express their love and appreciation. They traced the words “Thank you!”, added colorful drawings, and folded origami turtles—a symbol of long life and good wishes—for their grandparents. The results were heartwarming!
来週の月曜日に控えた「敬老の日」に向けて、子どもたちは愛と感謝の気持ちを込めて、すてきなカードを作りました。「Thank you!」の文字をなぞり書きし、カラフルな絵を描き、さらに長寿と幸せを願う象徴である折り紙のカメも折って、カードに添えました。心が温まる、すばらしい作品ができあがりました！
On Thursday, we visited Mr. Koyama’s farm to check on our sweet potatoes and help pull out weeds. Mr. Koyama kindly shared about his life as a farmer, and the children asked insightful questions, such as:
- Why did you become a farmer?
- Do you work alone or with others?
- How do you help people with your work?
As a special treat, we visited the chicken coop, and the children were thrilled to see and touch the chickens up close. A big thank you to Mr. Koyama for welcoming us once again!
木曜日には、小山さんの農園を訪れ、自分たちが育てているサツマイモの様子を見に行き、草取りのお手伝いもしました。小山さんは、農家としての生活について親切にお話してくださり、子どもたちは次のような鋭い質問をしていました：
- どうして農家になったのですか？
- 一人でお仕事をしているのですか？それとも誰かと一緒ですか？
- 農家の仕事は、どんなふうに人の役に立っているのですか？
特別なお楽しみとして、鶏小屋も見学させていただきました。子どもたちは、間近でニワトリを見たり触れたりできて、大興奮でした！今回も温かく迎えてくださった小山さんに、心より感謝いたします。
We wrapped up our week with a trip to the park on Friday. The weather was perfect, and the children enjoyed running, playing, and spending time together in nature. It was a much-needed break and a joyful end to our busy week. We hope to make more park visits soon when the weather allows!
金曜日には、公園へのお出かけで一週間を締めくくりました。お天気にも恵まれ、子どもたちは自然の中で走ったり遊んだりしながら、友だちと楽しい時間を過ごしました。忙しかった一週間の中で、リフレッシュできる大切なひとときとなりました。これからもお天気の良い日には、また公園へお出かけしたいと思います！
