Prefecture Services and Decision Making

This week in our inquiry learning, we shifted our focus from city services to prefecture services. The students compared the kinds of services that the city provides, such as garbage collection, schools, and parks, with the larger services managed at the prefectural level, like highways, major hospitals, and high schools.

One of the most engaging activities was a role-play about decision making. The class was divided into three groups. One group took on the role of the government, while the other two prepared arguments to convince the government to build either a hospital or a high school. The government group listened to both sides and then had to make a final choice. Through this activity, the students experienced how governments must weigh different priorities and make decisions that affect many people.

The goal of these lessons was to help students understand the differences between city and prefectural services, to see how decisions are made, and to think about the challenges of balancing needs in a community. They also practiced their communication and persuasion skills by presenting their ideas clearly and confidently.

The students enjoyed stepping into different roles and came to realize how complex government decisions can be. This experience helped them connect what they are learning in class to real-life situations where leaders must carefully consider the needs of everyone in the community.

今週の探究学習では、市のサービスから県のサービスへと焦点を移しました。生徒たちは、市が提供するごみ収集、学校、公園といったサービスと、高速道路、大きな病院、高校といった県が管理するサービスを比べました。

特に盛り上がった活動は、意思決定のロールプレイでした。クラスを三つのグループに分け、一つのグループは政府役となり、残りの二つのグループは政府に対して「病院を建てるべきか」「高校を建てるべきか」を説得する役割を担いました。政府役のグループは両方の意見をよく聞いた上で、最終的な選択をしなければなりませんでした。この活動を通して、生徒たちは政府が異なる優先事項を天秤にかけ、人々に大きな影響を与える決定をしなければならないことを実感しました。

この学習の目的は、市と県のサービスの違いを理解し、意思決定がどのように行われるのかを知り、地域社会のニーズのバランスを取る難しさについて考えることでした。また、自分の考えを明確に伝え、説得することで、コミュニケーションの力を高めることもできました。

生徒たちはそれぞれの役割を楽しみながら体験し、政府の決定がいかに複雑であるかを学びました。今回の学習を通して、リーダーが地域全体のニーズを慎重に考えながら選択をする現実の状況と結びつけることができました。

P.E. Lesson: Sports Festival Practice

This week during P.E., both classes came together for a special practice session to prepare for the upcoming Sports Festival. The students were full of energy and excitement as they worked on some of the main events they will take part in on the big day.

We began by practicing the opening march, making sure everyone could walk in step and move together as one team. After that, the students tried out the relay race, passing the baton quickly and cheering for their classmates. We also practiced the ball toss, where the children worked together to get as many balls into the basket as possible, and ended the session with a lively tug of war.

It was wonderful to see the students encouraging one another, showing teamwork, and putting their best effort into every activity. This practice gave everyone a chance to understand the rules, get comfortable with the events, and build excitement for the festival. We are looking forward to seeing their hard work and team spirit shine on the day of the Sports Festival.

今週のP.E.では、両クラスが一緒になって運動会に向けた特別練習を行いました。子どもたちはエネルギーにあふれ、大会当日に参加する主な種目に楽しく取り組みました。

最初に開会式の行進を練習し、みんなが一歩をそろえてチームとして動けるようにしました。その後はリレーを行い、バトンを素早く渡しながら仲間を応援しました。さらに玉入れの練習では、できるだけ多くの玉をかごに入れられるように協力し、最後は元気いっぱいの綱引きで締めくくりました。

子どもたちがお互いを励まし合い、チームワークを発揮しながら全力で活動する姿はとても素晴らしかったです。今回の練習を通して、ルールを理解し、競技に慣れ、運動会への期待をさらに高めることができました。当日の子どもたちの頑張りとチームスピリットがとても楽しみです。
