Milky way:Discovering characters together！(Oct 14th-17th)

Hello everyone. We were welcomed back to school from the long weekend by a fun and exciting puppet show. The story told was about a man who wanted to cut down a tree in the forest but three little acorns begged him not to because of the tree’s significance to the community. He listened to them and didn’t cut down the tree. They then granted him three wishes as a gesture of goodwill. The man, however used all these wishes by mistake. He initially planned of wishing to be rich and to live in a big house . Instead he wished for ①a sausage, ②to be able to eat the sausage through his nose and ③ to have it removed when it got stuck in his nose. It was a silly and funny story and everybody enjoyed it! We hope the students will be able to reflect back on the show when the times comes for us to start talking about the different ways of telling stories in the weeks to come.

皆さん、こんにちは。3連休からスクールに戻ると素敵な人形劇が待っていました！物語は、森の木を切りたいと思っていた男の人が、3つの小さなどんぐりの妖精に、その木は地域にとって大切なもで彼らのおじいちゃんだから切らないでほしいと頼まれるというものです。男はどんぐりたちの言うことを聞いて木を切りませんでした。すると、どんぐりたちは善意のしるしとして、男の3つの願いを叶えてくれました。ところが、男は間違って願いを全部使ってしまいました。最初はお金持ちになって大きな家に住みたいと願うつもりでした。ところが、彼が願ったのは、(1)ソーセージ、妻が(2)ソーセージが鼻にくっつけばいいのに！と願ってしまいソーセージが鼻にくっつきました。そして男が(3)鼻にくっついたソーセージを取ってもらうこと、でした。とても面白い物語で、みんな楽しんでくれました！これから数週間かけて、物語の伝え方について話し合います。話し合いの際、みんながこの人形劇のことを思い出し振り返ってくれることを願っています。

We continued our inquiry about characters as one of the elements of a story. Our main focus this week was learning about or reviewing the vocabulary used to describe characters in stories by trying to guess the words written under the pictures everyone had to look at. We then listened to a story, “Slug wants a hug!” and chose one character from the story, drew a picture of that character and wrote what the character said, what they did and how they felt in the story. Our storytelling topic is already proving to be a fun and exciting one!

物語の要素の一つとしての登場人物（キャラクター）について、先週に引き続き探究しました。今週のメインフォーカスは、物語の登場人物を表す語彙（感情や風貌）を学んだり、それを復習することでした。全員に見せた絵の下に書かれた言葉をみんなで考えました。「ナメクジはハグがしたい！」というお話（絵本）を聞き、その物語の中からキャラクターを一つ選び、その絵を描き、物語の中でそのキャラクターが何を言ったのか、何をしたのか、そしてどのように感じたのかを書きました。新しいユニットの「物語」というテーマは、子どもたちにとってすでに楽しく刺激的なものになっています！

The weather has become much cooler and much more comfortable so we enjoyed walking to the park and moving our bodies energetically.

気温もだいぶ涼しくなってきて過ごしやすくなってきたので、公園まで散歩したり元気に体を動かしたりして楽しみました。

We did a Halloween pumpkin craft. They had to cut eyes, a nose and a mouth to make a pumpkin’s face. They then ‘colored’ the pumpkin by threading orange wool string in the holes around the circumference of the paper plate to make a zig zag pattern. They all said they enjoyed doing this craft. They worked on their fine motor skills by handling the string and cutting shapes. I guess we can say they killed two birds with one stone😁.

ハロウィンのかぼちゃのクラフトをしました。カボチャの顔を作るために、目、鼻、口を切って貼り付けました。その後、紙皿の周りの穴にオレンジ色の毛糸を通してジグザグ模様を作り、カボチャに色を塗りました。MWのみんなは、このクラフトが楽しかったと言っていました。毛糸を扱ったり、形を切ったりすることで、微細運動能力も鍛えられました。一石二鳥ですね😁
