This week in the Shooting Star Class was filled with excitement, learning, and joyful moments! The children explored phonics, music, our Unit of Inquiry, outdoor activities, and continued preparing for our upcoming Christmas Show.
今週のShooting Starクラスは、ワクワクする学びと楽しい時間でいっぱいでした！
子どもたちはフォニックス、音楽、UOI（探究学習）、外遊び、そしてもうすぐ始まるクリスマスショーの準備に取り組みました。
In phonics, we focused on CVC words from the -og family. Shooting Star students thought of words that end with -og, practiced blending sounds, read simple words, and played an energetic “Build a Word” game where they searched for letter cards and even formed words together with their friends! The children also worked on their writing skills by practicing the lowercase letter s.
フォニックスの時間には、-og ファミリーのCVC単語に焦点を当てました。
Shooting Starの子どもたちは、語尾が -og で終わる単語を考えたり、音をつなげて読む練習をしたり、簡単な単語を読んだりしました。
また、「Build a Word」というエネルギッシュなゲームを楽しみ、教室の中から文字カードを探したり、友だちと一緒に単語を作ったりしました！
さらに、書く練習として、小文字の s の練習にも取り組みました。
Our Unit of Inquiry: Sharing the Planet continued as we learned about living and non-living things. This week, we began exploring LOI 2: Living things grow and change when we take care of them. The children reflected on what they need to grow and stay alive and created thoughtful drawings of themselves and the things essential for growth. Many drew fruits, vegetables, food, and water—showing their strong background knowledge about our topic. We also did a sorting activity where students grouped pictures of living things by identifying which ones belonged together. They categorized them into plants/trees, humans/people, and animals. After sorting, we discussed what these living things need to grow. The children confidently shared ideas such as food, water, sunlight, sleep or rest, shelter or a home, and air.
UOI（探究学習）「私たちが住む地球（Sharing the Planet）」では、生きているものと生きていないものについての学びを続けました。今週は LOI 2：”生き物はお世話をされることで成長し変化する” を探究し始めました。
子どもたちは「自分が成長し、生き続けるために必要なものは何か」を振り返り、それらを取り入れた自分の絵を描きました。多くの子が、果物・野菜・食べ物・水などを描き、このテーマに対する強い背景知識を示していました。また、生き物の分類活動も行いました。生きているものの絵カードを見て、「どれが同じ仲間か」を考え、植物／木、人間、動物の3つのグループに分けました。
分類したあとには、「それぞれの生き物が成長するために必要なもの」について話し合いました。
子どもたちは自信をもって、以下のような意見を共有してくれました：食べ物、水、太陽、睡眠や休息、すみか（家）、空気など。
Throughout the week, we enjoyed our swimming lesson, gym, music, outside play, and a visit to the park. We also continued our cheerful Christmas Show practice, where the children are becoming more confident and excited each day.
1週間を通して、水泳レッスン、ジム、音楽、外遊び、公園へのお出かけなどを楽しみました。
また、クリスマスショーの練習も引き続き行い、子どもたちは日ごとに自信をつけ、さらにワクワクしながら取り組んでいます。
We celebrated the November birthdays together in the music room. This month, Ms. Fronie hosted the celebration. Two of our students turned five and they were very happy celebrating their birthdays with everyone at school. We danced our favorite Chicken Dance, and the children were amazed by a magical science experiment where Ms. Fronie created Christmas drinks for Santa, Snowman, and Reindeer. Using baking soda, food coloring, dish soap, and vinegar, she made fizzy, bubbly “drinks” that delighted everyone! Our very brave and talented Shooting Star students then stood in front of the group to perform their morning song, “Yesterday’s Dream.” Their heartfelt performance earned a big round of applause and inspired everyone to continue doing their best for the Christmas Show.
私たちは音楽室で11月生まれのお誕生日会を行いました。
今月はMs. Fronieが司会を務めました。2人のお友達が5歳になり、みんなにお祝いしてもらえてとても嬉しそうでした。
お誕生日会では、子どもたちの大好きな「チキンダンス」を踊り、
さらに、Ms. Fronie がサンタ・雪だるま・トナカイのための“クリスマスドリンク”を作る魔法のような科学実験を披露しました。重曹、食紅、食器用洗剤、お酢を使って、しゅわしゅわ泡が出る不思議な飲み物を作り、子どもたちは大喜びでした！
その後、勇気いっぱいで才能あふれるShooting Starの子どもたちが、
みんなの前に立って朝の歌「Yesterday’s Dream」を披露しました。
心のこもった素敵なパフォーマンスに大きな拍手が送られ、
クリスマスショーに向けて「もっと頑張ろう！」という気持ちがさらに高まりました。
Overall, it was a wonderful week full of curiosity, creativity, and cooperation. We are incredibly proud of our Shooting Stars and can’t wait to see them shine even brighter next week!
