This is a special time when people around the world celebrate the importance of love, kindness, and connection.

この時期は、世界中の人々が「愛」「思いやり」「人とのつながり」の大切さを祝う、特別な時間です。

In Savanna Class, we continued exploring special moments and celebrations around the world. This week, our focus was on China and Ireland, and the children were so engaged and curious throughout our discussions.

サバンナクラスでは、「世界の特別な瞬間やお祝い」をテーマにした学びを続けています。今週は 中国 と アイルランド を取り上げ、子どもたちは終始興味津々で、楽しみながら話を聞いたり質問をしたりしていました。

For Ireland, we learned about St. Patrick’s Day, a celebration where people wear green to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Today, this celebration is observed in many parts of the world as a way to remember his contributions and legacy. The children also created shamrocks, symbols of happiness and good luck, to welcome positive energy into our classroom 🍀.

アイルランドについては、アイルランドの守護聖人である聖パトリックを称えて、緑色の服を身に着けるお祝い「セント・パトリックス・デー」について学びました。現在では、このお祝いは世界各地で行われ、彼の功績や遺したものを振り返る機会となっています。
また、子どもたちは幸せや幸運の象徴である シャムロック を作り、教室に明るく前向きなエネルギーを迎え入れました🍀

Speaking of good fortune, we then explored how Chinese New Year is celebrated. The class discovered that Chinese New Year usually falls in February, not January, and that people traditionally wear red and gold to welcome happiness, luck, and prosperity.

また、「幸運」というキーワードから 中国のお誕生日、結婚式、旧正月（春節） のお祝いについて、中国での生活経験をお持ちの保護者の方をゲストスピーカーとしてお迎えし、貴重なお話をしていただきました。中国の旧正月は1月ではなく2月頃に行われることが多く、人々は幸せや幸運、そして豊かさを願って、赤や金色を身に着けることを子どもたちは発見しました。また、行事により長〜いうどんや餃子を食べる事、逆さ福に獅子の舞、お年玉袋はホンバオって言うんだよ、など、素敵なお話をたくさん教えていただきました✨！

To wrap up our cultural exploration, we were joined by a guest speaker—a parent who lived in China and shared valuable insights about Chinese culture. With their help, the children learned how to make a Chinese knot. The activity was challenging, but every step was enjoyed, and the children felt proud and happy after accomplishing their goal.

その後、子どもたちは チャイニーズノット 作りに挑戦しました。少し難しい活動でしたが、一つひとつの工程を楽しみながら取り組み、完成したときには達成感にあふれた、誇らしく嬉しそうな表情を見せてくれました。思い思いに色を塗った「逆さ福」のプラバンを取り付けたチャイニーズノットは2階廊下に掲示してあります、ぜひご覧ください！

また、日本の行事である七五三についても。マッチングゲームのイラストを見てなんのお祝いか推理したり、千歳飴の袋に書いてあるイラストは鶴&亀？亀&うさぎ？などのクイズに挑戦しながら、楽しく学ぶことができました😊

Alongside our cultural studies, we are continuing to build our reading skills. We have started reading RAZ high-frequency books, which help students practice sight words while also introducing longer words beyond CVC patterns. Our Savanna Class truly loves reading and enjoys every reading session 📚.

文化学習と同時に、読む力を育てる活動も続けています。RAZのハイフリークエンシーブックを使い、よく使われる単語を繰り返し練習しながら、これまでより長い単語にも挑戦しています。どんどんと読めるようになることが嬉しくて、サバンナの子どもたちはリーディングの時間が大好きです📖

Since we are learning about diversity, we have also included Spanish songs in our morning routine. In line with the IB focus on multilingualism, we sing the months of the year and days of the week in Spanish.

多様性をテーマにした学びの一環として、朝の活動にスペイン語の歌を取り入れています。IBが重視する多言語教育に沿って、スペイン語で月や曜日を歌いながら、楽しんでさまざまな言語に触れています。
