Unit 5 reflection

This week marked the final reflection week of our Tradition and Heritage unit. It was a time for students to slow down, reflect on their learning, and carefully consider how their understanding had grown throughout the unit.

As a culminating task, students worked on a final booklet project that brought together everything they had explored. In their booklets, they reflected on how people lived in the past, the needs they had, the problems they faced, and the solutions they created. Students also shared what traditions, historical sites, clothing, food, and shelters can tell us about culture, location, and daily life. The focus was not just on facts, but on making connections and explaining ideas in their own words.

Alongside the project, students completed a self-assessment, reflecting on their effort, time management, and responsibility for learning. They thought about what they did well, what was challenging, and what they would like to improve next time. This final week was a meaningful opportunity for students to recognize their progress, celebrate their learning, and take pride in the work they have done.

Setsubun Surprise in the Snow

This week, we also enjoyed a fun and memorable Setsubun experience. While the students were playing outside in the snow, a surprise visitor appeared: a demon. The unexpected moment quickly turned into an exciting challenge as the students worked together to chase the demon away using snowballs.

Laughing, shouting, and cheering each other on, the students showed great teamwork and enthusiasm. This playful activity allowed them to experience Setsubun traditions in an active and joyful way, while also reinforcing cooperation and shared celebration. It was a wonderful moment filled with energy, laughter, and learning.
