Hello everyone! We have been very busy in the Shooting Star class with many exciting celebrations and learning experiences!

Shooting Starクラスでは、たくさんの楽しいお祝いと学びの体験で、とても充実した毎日を過ごしています！
We started the week by celebrating our February birthday friends. Two of our classmates turned five years old—happy birthday, girls! Everyone had so much fun watching Ms. Ayako’s amazing magic tricks and saying the magic spell together: “Andora, Indora, Undora!” When Ms. Ayako returned to the classroom, the students surprised her with a big round of applause and happily said, “Thank you, Ms. Ayako!” It was truly a magical celebration.
今週は、2月生まれのお友だちのお誕生日会からスタートしました。クラスのお友だち2人が5歳になりました。お誕生日おめでとうございます！Ms. Ayakoの素晴らしいマジックショーを見ながら、みんなで「アンドラ、インドラ、ウンドラ！」と魔法の言葉を唱えて大盛り上がりでした。Ms. Ayakoが教室に戻ってくると、子どもたちは大きな拍手でサプライズし、「Thank you, Ms. Ayako!」と元気よく伝えました。本当に魔法のような素敵なお祝いとなりました。
In UOI lesson, the Shooting Star students discovered and shared their experiences about Shichi-Go-San and Okuizome. They worked in groups to answer questions and proudly shared their ideas with the class. It was wonderful to hear about their personal experiences with these traditional Japanese celebrations. The students also made kimono origami, decorating them with beautiful colors and drawings. We used their creations to decorate our Shichi-Go-San poster.
UOIのレッスンでは、七五三やお食い初めについて学び、それぞれの体験を共有しました。グループで質問に取り組み、自分たちの考えをクラスのみんなに発表しました。日本の伝統行事について、子どもたちの実体験を聞くことができ、とても素晴らしい時間となりました。また、色や絵で飾り付けをした着物の折り紙を作り、七五三のポスターに飾りました。
With Valentine’s Day in the air, we explored Valentine’s Day and White Day during our UOI lesson. The students were able to explain the difference between the two: on Valentine’s Day, girls give chocolates to boys, and on White Day, boys give chocolates to girls. They shared that people give chocolates to those they love to make them happy. After our discussion, the children created beautiful heart crafts using sticker paper and torn flower paper. We combined their artwork to make a lovely Valentine’s lantern, which now brightens our classroom.
バレンタインデーが近づく中、UOIではバレンタインデーとホワイトデーについても学びました。子どもたちは、バレンタインデーには女の子が男の子にチョコレートを渡し、ホワイトデーには男の子が女の子にチョコレートを渡すこと、その違いをしっかり説明することができました。また、「好きな人を喜ばせるためにチョコレートを渡す」と話してくれました。話し合いの後には、シール紙や花紙をちぎってハートの制作を行い、みんなの作品を組み合わせて素敵なバレンタインランタンを作りました。今では教室を明るく彩っています。
As spring approaches, we talked about hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and the summer hanabi (fireworks) festivals in Japan. The students shared how their families enjoy these special seasonal events. They especially enjoyed watching Ms. Fronie’s videos about her hanami and hanabi experiences, which helped them connect classroom learning with real-life traditions.
春が近づいてきたことから、日本の花見や夏の花火大会についても話し合いました。子どもたちは、家族とどのように季節の行事を楽しんでいるかを共有してくれました。特に、Ms. Fronieの花見や花火の体験動画を見ることをとても楽しみ、教室での学びと実際の伝統行事を結びつける良い機会となりました。
In music class, we finished playing “Butterfly” on the pianica and began singing new songs such as “Osamukosam” and “Momotaro.” Next week, the students will start practicing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on their pianicas. We are excited to see their continued progress in music!
音楽の時間には、鍵盤ハーモニカで「ちょうちょう」の演奏を終え、新しく「おさむこさむ」や「ももたろう」を歌い始めました。来週からは「メリーさんのひつじ」を鍵盤ハーモニカで練習する予定です。子どもたちのこれからの成長がとても楽しみです！
