Thank you so much for joining us for our Open Class today! It was such a joy to have you with us. The Canyon students were so excited and proud to share their classroom with you, and their happy smiles melted our hearts. They were simply adorable! 💛

Water Animal Craft
This week, we enjoyed making a fun paper plate craft!The children each chose their favourite animal and carefully painted the paper plate using paint and a brush, selecting colours that matched their chosen animal. They then added sticker eyes and used crayons to draw the animal’s face, taking great care to create their unique artwork.When we hung the finished creations from the ceiling in our Water Zone, the children were so excited and proud to see their work on display. 💛 Their beautiful animal crafts have helped transform our classroom into a wonderful and inviting Water Zone!
今週は、紙皿を使ったクラフトをしました！自分な好きな動物を子どもたちが選び、まずは動物に合う色を、絵具とブラシを使って塗り、シールの目を貼ったり、お顔をクレヨンで描いたりして、とても丁寧に仕上げました！出来上がった作品を、Water Zoneの天井からつるすと、みんな大喜び💛素敵なWater Zoneが出来上がりました！

Field Trip！
Our class had an exciting visit to the Shiga Fossil Museum, where the children explored a collection of animal fossils. We began on the ground floor, carefully observing the skeletons and bones on display. The children shared their ideas about what they thought the animals were. Some guessed that one of the large skeletons belonged to a shark, while others believed it was a dolphin. One child supported his idea by pointing out, “Look, teeth!” Another explained that he thought it was a dolphin “because it is big.”As we continued through the museum, the children identified many different animals such as birds, a lion, sea lions, white bears and black bears. When they came across the lion exhibit, one child excitedly called it “Mummy lion,” while others suggested that it was a lioness. There were also a few unfamiliar animals about which children showed wonderful curiosity by asking their teachers, “What is this?”To encourage further thinking, the children were asked, “Are there lions in Japan?” They all replied, “No!” When asked which animals are commonly found in Japan, many confidently answered, “bears.” They were also encouraged to think about the different habitats of the animals they observed. It was wonderful to see the children making meaningful connections between what they have been learning in the classroom and what they discovered at the museum.
今週は、四賀化石館へ見学に行き、さまざまな動物の化石を見学しました。見学は1階の展示からスタートし、大きな骨格標本や骨をじっくり観察しました。子どもたちは、「これは何の動物かな？」と考えながら、「サメじゃない？」「イルカだと思う！」と、自分なりの考えを楽しそうに伝え合っていました。「ほら、歯があるよ！」「大きいからイルカだと思う。」など、見つけた特徴をもとに理由を話す姿も見られました。館内を進むと、鳥やライオン、アシカ、シロクマ、クロクマなど、さまざまな動物の展示がありました。ライオンの展示では、「ママライオンだ！」という声や、「メスライオンじゃない？」という意見も聞かれました。また、初めて見る動物に出会うと、「これは何？」と先生に質問するなど、新しい発見への興味や関心が広がっていました。さらに、「日本にライオンはいるかな？」という問いかけには、みんなが「いない！」と元気よく答え、「日本にはどんな動物がいるかな？」と尋ねると、「クマ！」と自信をもって答える姿も見られました。見学を通して、動物が暮らす場所についても一緒に考えることができました。今回の見学では、教室で探究してきた「さまざまな動物」や「動物の暮らし」についての学びを、実際の展示を通して確かめたり、新たな発見につなげたりすることができました。子どもたちが、見たことや気づいたことを自分の言葉で伝えながら、学びを深めていく姿がとても印象的でした。

Also, during the week, we began transitioning into our second line of inquiry, Animals have needs to live. The children watched a short video about different pets and how they are cared for. At various points, the video was paused to encourage the children to observe carefully, think about what they were seeing, and share their ideas. The children eagerly participated, with some saying, “Eating snack,” “Eating carrot,”* and *“It needs water,” ‘sleeping’. They went on to paste the pet they chose .This activity provided an excellent introduction to the line of inquiry.
まず、ペットとそのお世話についての短い動画を見ました。動画は途中で止めながら、「何をしているのかな？」「動物には何が必要かな？」とみんなで考えました。子どもたちは、「おやつを食べてる！」「にんじんを食べてる！」「お水が必要！」「寝てる！」など、見つけたことを自分の言葉で積極的に伝えてくれました。その後は、自分で選んだペットの絵を台紙に貼り、活動を楽しみました。動画を見て気づいたことを言葉で表現したり、動物が生きるために必要なものについて考えたりすることで、「動物が生きるために必要なもの」という新しい探究への興味や関心を深める、よい導入となりました。

The children’s knowledge and understanding of letters and sounds continue to grow each week. This week, we learned the letter Kk and its sound. The children sang the Jolly Phonics song and practiced the action by pretending to fly an imaginary kite in the air. They were introduced to vocabulary beginning with the /k/ sound, such as k-k key, k-k kick,  and k-k kite. The children also enjoyed identifying classmates whose names begin with the letter , K or contain the /k/ sound. It was especially encouraging to see some children making connections between the sounds represented by the letters C and K, recognizing that both can make the /k/ sound in different words. Below is the phonics song for the the letter K.  
Phonicsでは、子どもたちの文字と音への理解が、少しずつ深まってきています。今週は、Kkとその音（/k/）について学びました。Jolly Phonicsの歌を歌いながら、空に凧（kite）を飛ばす動きを楽しみ、文字と音を結び付けて学びました。また、key（かぎ）、kick（キックする）、**kite（たこ）など、/k/の音で始まる言葉にも親しみました。さらに、クラスのお友だちの名前の中から、Kで始まる名前や、/k/**の音が入っている名前を見つける活動にも意欲的に取り組みました。中には、「Cの文字でも**/k/**の音になることがあるね！」と、これまで学んだ文字と音を結び付けて考える姿も見られ、子どもたちの気づきや理解の広がりを感じることができました。下記に、今週学習したKのJolly Phonicsの歌を掲載しています。ぜひご家庭でもお子さまと一緒に歌いながら、文字と音に親しんでみてください。

Canyon Tomato
This week, the children harvested the cherry tomatoes we have been growing in the planters in our playground and enjoyed eating them at lunchtime! The tomatoes were sweet and juicy—almost like fruit! It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to enjoy the delicious rewards of something they had helped grow.
園庭のプランターで育てているミニトマトをみんなで収穫しまし、ランチタイムにいただきました！甘くて、まるでフルーツのようなトマトでした！
