Back Together and Ready to Communicate!

After the summer break, we were excited to continue our Unit of Inquiry into teamwork. We started by focusing on one of the most important skills for a successful team: active listening. In groups of three, one student shared a favorite summer memory, another listened and explained what they heard in their own words, and the third listened carefully and asked a question.

After everyone had a chance to try the different roles, we brought our memories together by creating one big classroom summer drawing. It was a great way to reconnect while practicing listening, speaking, and contributing our own ideas to something we created together.

夏休みが終わり、チームワークについてのUnit of Inquiryを再開しました。まずは、良いチームにとって大切なスキルの一つである**「相手の話をよく聞くこと」**に取り組みました。3人グループになり、1人が夏休みの思い出を話し、もう1人が聞いた内容を自分の言葉で伝え、最後の1人が話をよく聞いて質問をしました。

それぞれの役割を体験した後は、みんなの夏休みの思い出を一つの大きな絵にしました。友達の話を聞いたり、自分の考えを伝えたりしながら、一緒に一つのものを作る楽しい活動となりました。

Back to the Newspaper Tower!

At the beginning of this unit, our first teamwork challenge at Nakano Campus was to build a tower using newspaper. This week, we looked back at that first experience and thought about everything we have learned since then about planning, communication, sharing ideas, and working toward a common goal.

Then it was time to try the challenge again! The students had another opportunity to build a newspaper tower, but this time they could put their new understanding of teamwork into practice. Rather than only thinking about how to build the tower, the challenge encouraged them to think about how they worked together as a team and how their teamwork had developed since the beginning of the unit.

このユニットの最初に、中野キャンパスで新聞紙を使ったタワー作りに挑戦しました。今週はその時の経験を振り返り、それから学んできた計画すること、コミュニケーションを取ること、アイデアを共有すること、そして共通の目標に向かって協力することについて考えました。

そして、もう一度新聞紙タワー作りに挑戦しました！今回は、これまで学んだチームワークを実際に使うことが目標です。「どうやって高いタワーを作るか」だけではなく、**「チームとしてどのように協力するか」**にも注目し、ユニットの最初から自分たちのチームワークがどのように成長したかを考える機会となりました。

Becoming Conflict Detectives

As we continue exploring how communication and conflict affect teamwork, the students became Conflict Detectives! We looked at different situations and tried to decide whether each one was actually a conflict. When we found a conflict, we investigated what was happening and thought about what the conflict was really about.

This helped the students begin looking beyond simply deciding who was right or wrong. Instead, we focused on understanding why disagreements happen and recognizing that people in a team can have different ideas, wants, or perspectives. This will lead us into our next learning as we explore different ways teams can communicate and solve problems together.

チームワークにおいてコミュニケーションや意見のぶつかり合いがどのような影響を与えるのかを探究するため、今回はみんなで**「コンフリクト探偵」**になりました！さまざまな場面を見ながら、「これは本当にコンフリクト（意見のぶつかり合い）かな？」と考え、コンフリクトだと思った場面では、何が問題になっているのかをみんなで探りました。

「どちらが正しい・間違っている」と考えるだけではなく、「なぜ意見が合わなかったのかな？」と、その理由について考えることを大切にしました。チームの中では、それぞれ違う考えや気持ちを持つことがあります。これからは、そんな時にどのようにコミュニケーションを取り、一緒に問題を解決していけるのかをさらに探究していきます。
