素敵なMilky Wayファミリーの皆さま、こんにちは！ Hello, Wonderful Milky Way Families!
Milky Wayでは、今週もとても素敵な1週間を過ごしました！
今週は雨の日が多くありましたが、教室の中はいつも子どもたちの明るい笑顔、楽しい学び、好奇心、そしてたくさんのチームワークでいっぱいでした。
週の始まりには、Rainbowの素敵な先生方が開催してくださった、特別なお誕生日会がありました。
子どもたちは、みんなで協力しておいしそうなケーキを「作る」ことを楽しみました！
材料を一つずつ加えるたびに、みんなで動きをつけながら、
「Mix, mix, mix!（まぜまぜ、まぜまぜ！）」
と一緒に声を合わせました。
材料を一つずつ加えていき、すべてが混ざったら……おいしそうなケーキの完成です！
もちろん、材料は写真カードで、ケーキはおもちゃのケーキでしたが、子どもたちは豊かな想像力を使って、音楽室を小さなベーカリーに変身させていました。
また、子どもたちの観察力と集中力を試す、ワクワクする「何でしょう？」ゲームも楽しみました！
2人の先生がそれぞれ箱を持ち、一人の先生が素早くアイテムを取り、そのアイテムをもう一人の先生の箱へ投げ入れます。
子どもたちは、素早く動くアイテムをよく見て、目でしっかり追いながら集中しなければなりませんでした。
そして、「ティッシュかな？」「桃かな？」「にんじんかな？」など、そのアイテムが何だったのかを一生懸命考えて答えました。
子どもたちは、どれだけ早くそれぞれのアイテムを見分けられるかを楽しみながら、友だちを応援したり、自分の答えを嬉しそうに伝えたりしていました。
このような遊びを通した経験の中で、子どもたちはよく聞くこと、注意深く観察すること、自分の考えを伝えること、そして友だちと一緒に活動することを自然に練習していました。
楽しみながら学び、互いを思いやるコミュニティの一員として、一緒に活動することの大切さも感じられる時間となりました。
What a wonderful week we have had in Milky Way! Even though the rain visited us quite often this week, our classroom continued to be filled with bright smiles, joyful learning, curiosity, and lots of teamwork.
We began our week with a special birthday celebration hosted by our lovely Rainbow teachers. The children had so much fun “baking” a delicious cake together! As each ingredient was added, we all joined in with actions and said, “Mix, mix, mix!” together. We continued adding the ingredients one by one until everything was mixed and our yummy cake was ready! Of course, the ingredients were picture cards and the cake was a toy cake, but the children used their wonderful imaginations to turn the music room into a little bakery. We also enjoyed an exciting guessing game that really put the children’s observation and concentration skills to the test! Two teachers each had a box, and one teacher quickly picked up an item and tossed it into the other teacher’s box. The children had to watch carefully and focus their eyes on the item as it moved quickly from one box to the other. They then tried to guess what the item was, such as tissue paper, a peach, or a carrot. The children were excited to see how quickly they could recognize each item and enjoyed cheering and sharing their guesses with their friends. Through these playful experiences, the children practiced listening carefully, observing closely, communicating their ideas, and participating together as a caring community.
Phonics ～「ch」の音を見つけよう！
Phonicsでは、文字の c と h が一緒になると、どのような音になるのかを探究しました。子どもたちは、c + h で /ch/ の音になることを発見しました！
楽しいPhonicsの動画を見ながら、音をよく聞いて、みんなで単語を読む練習をしました。
その後、学んだことを生かして、「ch」のダイグラフのワークシートに取り組みました。単語の最初に「ch」があるものと、最後に「ch」があるものを見つけ、それぞれ正しい列に書きました。
先生が一人ひとりのワークシートを確認する間、子どもたちは順番に、一人ずつ単語を声に出して読んでいきました。
目で見る文字と、耳で聞く音のつながりに気づきながら、少しずつ自信を持って英語を読めるようになっている子どもたちの姿を見ることができ、とても嬉しく思います。
Phonics: Discovering the /ch/ Sound
During Phonics, we explored what happens when the letters c and h work together. The children discovered that c + h makes the /ch/ sound! We watched a fun phonics video and practiced reading words together, listening carefully to the sounds. The children then applied their learning by completing a ch digraph worksheet, writing words with ch at the beginning and at the end in the correct columns. As the teacher checked their work, the students took turns reading the words aloud, one at a time. It was wonderful to see them developing their confidence and making connections between the letters they see and the sounds they hear.
Reading ～「Chase and Chet」を読もう！
Readingでは、絵本 「Chase and Chet」 を通して、/ch/ の子音ダイグラフについて、さらに学びを深めました。
まず、先生と子どもたちで一緒に物語を読みました。途中で立ち止まりながら、いくつかの新しい単語にも出会いました。ただ単に単語の意味を教えるのではなく、その言葉についてみんなで話し合い、子どもたちが意味を理解し、自分たちの経験や知っていることとつなげられるように工夫しました。
その後、子どもたちは一人で絵本を読む時間を持ち、さらにお友だちとペアになって一緒に読むことにも挑戦しました。
お友だちと一緒に読むことで、相手の声をよく聞くこと、コミュニケーションをとること、お互いに励まし合うことなどを自然に経験しながら、読むことへの自信も少しずつ育んでいきました。
また、子どもたちがこれまでに身につけてきた Phonicsの知識を使って、初めて出会う単語を自分の力で読み解こうとしている姿を見ることができ、とても嬉しく思いました！
Reading: “Chase and Chet”
We continued our exploration of the /ch/ consonant digraph through the book “Chase and Chet.” First, the teacher read the story together with the students, and we stopped along the way to discover some new vocabulary. Instead of simply giving the children definitions, we talked about the words and explained their meanings in ways that we could understand and connect to. The children then had opportunities to read the book individually and later read it together with a friend. Reading with a partner encouraged them to listen, communicate, support one another, and build confidence. We were excited to see the children using their phonics knowledge to help them decode new words!
UOI ～アイデアから行動へ！～
UOIの学びは、今週もこれから行われるスポーツフェスティバルと深くつながっています。
子どもたちは、スポーツフェスティバルで自分に与えられた役割を達成するために、どのような方法があるのかを考えるワークシートに取り組みました。エクササイズダンスのリーダー、選手宣誓のリーダー、玉入れのボールを数える係、ガーゼダンスのパフォーマー、プログラムアナウンサー、リレーや競走の選手、ゲームのお手伝いなど、それぞれの役割について「どうしたら自分の役割を上手にできるかな？」と考えました。
今回の学びで特に大切だったのは、子どもたちがただ紙に自分のアイデアを書くだけで終わらなかったことです。自分で考えたことを覚えて、実際の行動につなげることができました！
体育館でのリハーサルでは、ワークシートに書いたことを実際にやってみようと、一生懸命取り組みました。自分の動きを練習したり、それぞれの役割を思い出したり、先生の指示を聞いて行動したり、お友だちを応援したりしました。
これは、「学びを行動につなげる」というPYPにおいて大切な学びの素晴らしい一例です。
子どもたちは少しずつ、みんなで共通の目標に向かうとき、一人ひとりに大切な役割があるということを理解し始めています。
この経験を通して、子どもたちは今週の学びの中で大切にしている Communicators（コミュニケーター）・Open-minded（オープンマインド）・Reflective（振り返る人） の姿を見せてくれました。
チームメイトとコミュニケーションをとり、さまざまなアイデアに耳を傾け、「もっとどうしたらよくできるかな？」と自分の取り組みを振り返りながら、自分の役割に責任を持って取り組んでいました。
計画が変わったときには……
今週は、楽しみにしていた稲刈り体験も予定されていました。しかし、残念ながら雨天のため、活動は中止となりました。
楽しみにしていた分、子どもたちは少し残念そうでしたが、物事が計画通りに進まないときにも、Open-minded（オープンマインド）で柔軟に考え、気持ちを切り替えるということを実践する機会となりました。
そこで、予定していた時間を使って、これから行われるスポーツフェスティバルの準備を進めました。
子どもたちは、プログラムを最初から最後まで一通り確認し、それぞれの活動を順番に練習しました。先生の説明をよく聞き、競技の順番を確認し、自分の動きやアクションを練習しながら、「自分の番はいつなのか」も学びました。
今回のリハーサルは、子どもたちが自信をつけ、協力することを練習し、一人ひとりが参加することによって、チーム全体がスムーズに活動できるということを実感する素晴らしい機会となりました。
UOI: From Ideas to Action!
Our UOI learning continued to connect closely with our upcoming Sports Festival. The students completed a worksheet exploring different ways they can achieve the goals of their assigned roles, including exercise dance leaders, player oath leaders, bean bag counters, gauze dance performers, program announcers, relay and race runners, and game helpers. What made this learning especially meaningful was that the children did not simply write their ideas on paper—they remembered them and put them into action! During our rehearsal in the gym, they tried their very best to actually do what they had written on their worksheets. They practiced their movements, remembered their responsibilities, followed instructions, and supported their friends. This was a wonderful example of learning leading to action, an important part of the PYP. The children are beginning to understand that when we have a common goal, everyone has an important role to play. Through this experience, they demonstrated our focus on being Communicators, Open-minded, and Reflective learners. They communicated with their teammates, listened to different ideas, reflected on how they could improve, and took responsibility for their own roles.
When Plans Change…
We were also looking forward to our rice harvesting experience this week. Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, the activity had to be cancelled. Although we were disappointed, we had an opportunity to practice being open-minded and flexible when things do not go according to plan.
Instead, we used the time to prepare for our upcoming Sports Festival. The children went through the program from beginning to end, practicing each activity in sequence. They listened carefully to the instructions, followed the order of the events, practiced their movements and actions, and learned when it was their turn to participate. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to build confidence, practice cooperation, and understand how everyone’s participation helps the whole team work together smoothly.
少しの晴れ間と、外遊びを楽しもう！
何日も雨の日が続いていましたが、幸運にも雨の降らない素敵な午後があり、みんなで思いきり校庭で遊ぶことができました！
子どもたちは外に出られることがとても嬉しそうでした。走ったり、探検したり、ゲームをしたり、お友だちと一緒に楽しい時間を過ごしました。太陽の光の中で思いきり遊ぶ子どもたちの笑い声が、校庭いっぱいに響いていました。
外遊びもまた、たくさんのことを学ぶ大切な機会となりました。子どもたちは、順番を守ること、コミュニケーションをとること、協力すること、小さな問題を自分たちで解決すること、そしてお友だちを思いやることを自然に練習していました。
そして、チームワークはスポーツフェスティバルの練習のときだけに必要なものではありません。遊んでいるとき、学んでいるとき、そして誰かと一緒に過ごしているときにも、チームワークは生まれます。
お友だちと一緒に過ごすというシンプルな喜びを、子どもたちが自然に楽しんでいる姿を見ることができ、とても嬉しく思いました。
A Little Sunshine and Outdoor Fun!
After several rainy days, we were lucky enough to have a beautiful afternoon without rain, giving us the perfect opportunity to enjoy some time in the school yard! The children were so excited to get outside. They ran, explored, played games, and enjoyed spending time with their friends. Their laughter filled the playground as they made the most of the sunshine.
Outdoor play also became another opportunity for learning. The children practiced taking turns, communicating, cooperating, solving small problems, and caring for their friends. They learned that teamwork does not only happen during our Sports Festival practice, it happens whenever we play, learn, and interact with others. It was lovely to see them naturally enjoying the simple joy of being together.
これからの予定：最後のスポーツフェスティバル練習週間！
いよいよ来週が、スポーツフェスティバルに向けた最後の練習週間となります！子どもたちのワクワクも、日に日に高まっています！
来週は、体育館で大きなリハーサルを行います。これまで練習してきたことをすべてつなげ、一つのチームとして、それぞれの役割を実際に経験する大切な機会となります。
また、もう一度ぶどう園を訪れ、ぶどう摘みも行う予定です！子どもたちは、ぶどうをよく観察したり、実際に触れたりしながら、収穫を楽しむことで、また素敵な体験を通した学びの時間を過ごせることでしょう。
そして、いよいよ大切な日……スポーツフェスティバル当日です！
Milky Wayの子どもたちが、これまでの学びを実際の行動につなげ、それぞれの役割に責任を持ち、お友だちを励ましながら、みんなで力を合わせて達成できることを思いきり楽しむ姿を見るのが、今からとても楽しみです。
この特別な日を迎えるにあたり、私たちは改めて、スポーツフェスティバルは、ただ走ったり、踊ったり、ゲームをしたりするだけのものではないということを感じています。
チームワーク、責任感、コミュニケーション、最後まであきらめずに取り組む力、そして共通の目標に向かってみんなで協力すること。
このスポーツフェスティバルへの道のりを通して、子どもたちがたくさんのことを学び、大きく成長してきたことを、私たちは心から誇りに思います。
Looking Ahead: Our Final Sports Festival Week!
Can you believe that next week will be our last week of Sports Festival practice? The excitement is growing! We will have one big rehearsal in the gym, where the children will have the opportunity to bring all their practice together and experience their different roles as one team. We will also visit the vineyard once again for grape picking! The children are sure to have another wonderful hands-on learning experience as they observe, explore, and enjoy the harvest.
And then comes the big day… Sports Festival Day! We cannot wait to see our Milky Way children put their learning into action, take responsibility for their roles, encourage their friends, and celebrate what they can accomplish together.
As we approach this special day, we are reminded that the Sports Festival is not only about running, dancing, or playing games. It is about teamwork, responsibility, communication, perseverance, and working together toward a common goal. We are so proud of how much our children have grown throughout this journey.

Please take some time to listen to the attached songs with your children at home. These are the songs we have been happily singing together in class for the past couple of months, and the children are very familiar with them.
It would be wonderful if you could watch and sing along with your child, too! This is a lovely opportunity for them to share what they have been learning and enjoying at school with their families. Since we will be changing to a new set of songs for our next unit, this is a special chance to enjoy these familiar favorites together one more time.
