The children were ready to jump back into fun and learning after Silver Week!

These days were filled with creativity and inquiry. First, we experimented with making alphabet letters out of pipe cleaners. The children started with one pipe cleaner and then challenged themselves to use two. Our Growing Learners and Careful Thinkers worked hard to bend and shape the letters, and they were eager to share what they had made, calling out, “Look, Mr. Paul! ‘B’!” and “Look, Mr. Paul! ‘W’!”

As October began, Aurora started getting ready for a new unit of inquiry and the fall season. We kicked things off with the first of many Halloween crafts–paper plate monsters! This gave the children a fun opportunity to use their creativity while also making connections to our previous learning about body parts and numbers. Some children chose to create funny one-eyed monsters.

On our first day back, we also celebrated our September birthdays, so excitement was high! Everyone enjoyed celebrating their friends birthday and joining the activities.
Silver Week

On Thursday, we had a fire drill led by Mr. Jun. This was our fourth drill, and the children are becoming quick, confident safe movers. They listened carefully, followed our OKaShiMoChi safety routine, and showed how much they’ve learned.

On Friday morning, Aurora had a tiny surprise visitor… a shiny blue beetle! As some children arrived, our Curious Explorers gathered around to observe it, hold it, and gently touch it. They were fascinated by its tiny size, shape, and beautiful iridescent blue color. It was a simple moment that became a wonderful opportunity to observe and learn about the living things around us.

As always, we ended the week with Ms. Satomi’s Music inquiry. The children listened to different sounds and rhythms and enjoyed moving their bodies with the music. It was another fun opportunity to explore movement, listening, and self-expression.
It was a busy return to Aurora, filled with creativity, inquiry, celebration, movement, and lots of opportunities to be Curious Explorers and Growing Learners!
