This week is filled with new things to learn and discover for the Milky Way class.

We have already started our inquiry for Unit 4, which is also our final unit for this school year. This unit is under the theme of Sharing the Planet and our topic will be all about Natural Resources. To start our unit, we had a provocation activity. We gathered some nature objects during our walk to the nearby shrine and we used them to create anything. Some of the kids made creative artworks, while others built structures and something nature-inspired. Their works are all unique and creative! They realized that we can do a lot of things from the resources that we get from nature.

今週は、新しい挑戦や発見がたくさんありました。

今週からユニット4の探究が始まりました。今年度学ぶ、最後のユニットになります。今回の探究テーマは「地球の共有」で、Milky Wayクラスでは「天然資源」について学んでいきます。新しいユニットを始めるにあたり、天然素材を使ったアクテビティをしました。先週、スクール近所の神社にお散歩に行ったときに拾った自然物を使って、自由に工作をしました。想像力を働かせてアートを作る子もいれば、何かの形を作る子もいました。とても独特で創造的な作品が出来上がりました。自然の中から見つけたもので、たくさんの事が出来ることがわかりました。

This week we also started our new lesson in Math. We are done learning about addition, so now we are going to learn another basic operation, and that is subtraction. We used our ever-reliable gingerbread man bus to try to learn this new concept. Most of the MW kids understood the lesson straight away, but of course, we have to practice more so that we can also subtract bigger numbers.

算数のレッスンでも新しいことを学び始めました。足し算の学習が終了し、今月からは引き算の学習が始まりました！足し算の学習の時に作った、10個のマスがあるジンジャークッキーバスを使い、目で見て理解しながら10までの数の引き算を練習しました。結果、ほとんど全員の子が引き算とはどんなものかを理解することが出来ました！もっと大きな数の引き算を理解するために、引き続き練習をしていきたいと思います。

In Music, we are also trying a new musical instrument. Starting this week, the Milky Way kids are going to practice playing a musical piece using bells for their music class. This music lesson is kind of new for them because it requires them to be attentive at all times and cooperate with their classmates. They would surely need a lot of practice to perform their piece perfectly but for sure, just like their pianica performance, they will do great.

ミュージックレッスンでは、初めて使う楽器の演奏が始まりました。今週から、ハンドベルを使ってレッスンを行います。みんなベルのきれいな音色が気に入って、演奏してみると、「これ楽しい！」と笑みがこぼれました。いままでは個々に演奏をすることがほとんどでしたが、今回のハンドベルの演奏はみんなが周りの子と強調しながら、協力してひとつの曲を作り上げます。初めてのチャレンジでたくさんの練習が必要になりますが、クリスマスショーでの演奏を成功させたように、きっと素晴らしいものを作り上げられると思います！
