A BIG shout-out to our Birthday Girls!! Happy 5th Birthday. May all your wishes come true! As with Savanna tradition, we ‘cut’ a cake in class and made our wishes! For the school’s monthly birthday party, we had a Zumba dance!
For our upcoming Sports Festival, Savanna has been working on our minibeasts T-shirts. We drew out and coloured our drafts. We started painting our minibeasts on the T-shirts. The artistic renditions of ladybugs, butterflies, longhorn beetles, caterpillars, and flowers are coming alive in vibrant colours! Giant origami insects will be part of the gym decorations too.
This week, we read the book “The Very Busy Spider”. We made collages of insects out of sticks and stones too. In the schoolyard, we caught a good variety of minibeast including a praying mantis, and a black-yellow garden spider. “I caught a moth” someone called out. “Or is this a butterfly?” another asked. That led us into another line of inquiry about butterflies. We found out that butterflies have little knobs or clubs at the end of their feelers. Moths have feathery feelers. Butterflies grow in a chrysalis and a moth in a cocoon.
Savanna has been diligent in keeping up with literacy and numeracy skills. We have been working on our penmanship – writing letters of the alphabet letter, our names and numbers. In phonics, we have made our way to Rr as in rabbits, rainbow, rhinocerous and rocket. We are using the website Starfall Kindergarten to hone our reading skills along with Reading A-Z (RAZ) books. Starfall (https://www.starfall.com/h/) is child-friendly, with easy navigation features and no advertisements! Happy exploring. Till next week, enjoy the last of our summer days!
