Alright, let’s kick things off with a look at our journey from Matsumoto Station to the airport.

We met up with all the participating students at Matsumoto Station and headed out with plenty of time to spare before our flight!
Everyone came well-prepared with great energy—which is important, especially with a long flight ahead of us.
For this tour, we departed from Chubu Centrair International Airport! *The choice of airport may vary depending on the season and available flights.

At the airport, each student took on the challenge of using the self check-in kiosks—another aspect that sets this tour apart from typical travel programs. We encourage students to handle things independently as much as possible, while still offering support when needed.
Later on the plane, the students also filled out their immigration forms by themselves.
After successfully checking in, we grabbed lunch before boarding our flight.
For some of the students, it was their very first time flying! But rather than feeling nervous, their excitement took over—and they genuinely seemed to enjoy the experience onboard.
As we chatted during the flight, the cabin crew even came over with questions like, “Where are you from?” and “How do you speak English so well?” They were so friendly! Once they found out our students were from an international school, they smiled and said, “No wonder your English is so good!”
Throughout the flight, the students found time to relax, nap, and just enjoy the journey in their own way.

After a smooth transfer at Hong Kong Airport, we safely arrived in Sydney!
In Australia, the seasons are the complete opposite of Japan.
When we traveled in March, it was just about to turn into autumn in Australia. But thanks to the country’s mild year-round climate, it was still warm enough for T-shirts and shorts.
(We also planned a laundry day on Day 4, so students could wash their clothes—super helpful for keeping luggage light!)
Upon arrival in Sydney, the Deep Dive team gave us a warm and friendly welcome at the airport!

Even after the long journey, the students still had plenty of energy—so we headed straight to the beach!
Our destination: Maroubra Beach, a lively local spot popular with both residents and surfers.
Since it was around lunchtime, we enjoyed a classic Aussie treat after exploring the beach—Fish & Chips!
Everyone was amazed by how fresh and delicious it was… and equally surprised by how big the portions were!
This was also when the students completed their very first “shopping mission” at the restaurant—ordering and paying on their own!

After soaking up the sun at the beach, we headed straight to our hotel.
On the bus ride over, we could already see some sleepy faces—proof that the long flight had finally caught up with everyone.
To avoid overdoing it on Day 1, we kept things easy in the evening: a nice dinner, a quick reflection session, and then off to bed early to rest up for Day 2.
Students are staying in pairs or small groups of 2–3 per room. The hotel is in a safe area and just a short walk from the nearest station—super convenient!
It’s also well-equipped with towels, shampoo, and conditioner, so no need to pack those from Japan. Always a win when we can travel lighter!

With so many new sights and first-time experiences, it’s totally normal to feel both mentally and physically tired—but the students stayed positive and engaged throughout the day, and that made me really happy to see.
And with that, we’ll wrap up Day 1!
