A Beautiful Busy Week, May 19-23

Ready. Set. Go!  Last week students did their best to stay safe in an Earthquake Drill. To add to their readiness, Waterfall students had a Street Safety Drill with a traffic light to help them practice. They listened carefully to the instructor and Squirrel explain how to safely cross the street. They learned to look, listen and walk and hold hands no matter where they are walking. They even got Safety Licenses to show that they are ready!

They also are learning that they are the same because they have families, but that all families look different and have a different number of people. They traced big and small circles and counted how many they could draw. Then students decided how many circles they needed to draw by themselves to show each family. They answered questions like: How many people are in your family? Who has hair? How many eyes does he/she have?

Waterfall students finished off their face and body creations by tracing block squares to build their names. Then they chose the toy that they like the most. Some students like to build block towers and some like to make trains. They got to see that some of their names are long and some names are short, but they are all very special because they are different!

Students sang “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes!” Then teachers asked questions like: “How many ears do you have” and they counted their body parts. We had some great questions from students, like: Why do we have 2 eyes? So, they played a game to find out why we do not have just 1 eye. Students tried some fun tasks with one eye covered up! Teachers asked the Waterfall students: Can you walk? Can you put beads on a string? The answer was yes, but they learned it was slow and difficult to walk along a line with one eye covered. They said using 2 eyes was easy and fast!

Finally, time to go on our long awaited Bus Trip to the Park! Students played in the stream and fountain. The told us how the cold water felt in the warm weather and splashed around. Then students had a lovely picnic in the shade of some green trees and they talked about the healthy and tasty food that their parents made for lunch. After eating our lunches the student played with each other, chased bubbles and ran around the sprinklers.

Wow, they did a lot this week and had so much fun in every activity! Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday!
