Excited Explorers- Waterfall 8.18-8.22

In this unit about Sharing the Planet students are inquiring about many different animals and where they live. So, Waterfall started off this week by exploring Alps Nature Park with Canyon Class! The students saw a lot of forest animals like frogs, toads, eels and lizards. They especially loved looking at the salmon and fish in the aquarium!  They went walking over the river and through the forest to see lots of different plants, cicadas and spiders along the way.

Waterfall is starting to learn about the second line of inquiry; that People and Animals Help Each Other in Many Ways! Waterfall students are always excited to drink milk at snack time, so they found out which animals help them the most!  Local dairy farmers brought a cow milking display for everyone to learn how to milk a cow. The also helped to churn fresh milk to make butter!  Students also touched and smelled the food that farmers give the cows to help them grow big and healthy.

Waterfall wrapped up their animal coverings decorations by adding animals with shells! Students chose either snails or turtles and colored their shells beautifully, so drop by and take a look! We read No Place Like Home for story time to review that animals live in different kinds of places- some are hot, cold, wet or dry- so animals have a lot or a little fur and big or small scales and shells. The animal coverings can be soft or hard in order to keep them warm or safe!

Finally, Waterfall students had a lot of fun and made cool and colorful shaved ice cups to celebrate the end of August and a hot summer! Enjoy a gorgeous weekend.
