This week has been a busy one for the Savanna class as we prepared for the big event of the season: the Sports Festival! Even with all the excitement for this occasion, we continued our inquiry into Community Helpers.
今週は、いよいよ今週に迫った「スポーツフェスティバル」に向けて大忙しでした！
ワクワクした気持ちの中でも、子どもたちは「地域で働く人たち（Community Helpers）」についての探究を続けています。
The children had the chance to watch a short video clip about helping others. They were very focused and amazed by what they saw. Afterward, we had a short discussion, and they eagerly shared their observations: “I saw a boy helping an elderly person carry heavy things.” “A girl picked up a phone that was dropped and returned it.” “A man gave food to a hungry person.” It was wonderful to see that they recognized these acts of kindness as what we call “help.”
子どもたちは「人を助けること」についてのビデオを見ました。みんな集中して、興味深そうに見入っていました。
どんなビデオだったか、子どもたちがこんなふうに発表してくれました。
「おじいさんが重い物を運ぶのを、男の子が手伝っていたよ」
「女の子が落ちた携帯を拾って、持ち主に返してあげてた」
「男の人が、お腹をすかせている人にごはんをあげていたよ」
子どもたちがこうしたやさしい行動を“助けること”としてしっかり理解しているのが、とても嬉しかったです。
After the discussion, one student suddenly exclaimed, “Can I write on the Helping Hands paper and add something to the Helping Hands tree?” The rest of the class quickly agreed, and together they added ways they could help their community. The video truly inspired them, and one student summed it up beautifully: “I love helping to make others happy!”
話し合いのあと、ある子が「どんな風に人を助けることができるのか、紙に書いて“Helping Handsの木”に貼ってもいい？」と元気に言いました。すると他の子どもたちも「やりたい！」と賛成し、みんなで自分たちにできる“地域の人を助ける方法”を書きました。
今回のビデオは子どもたちにとってとてもよい刺激になったようで、ある子はこんなふうにまとめてくれました。
「人を助けて、その人が笑顔になるのが大好き！」
Before this unit ends and wraps up everything, we made sure that we finish practicing to read the 2nd batch of Jump out words (sight words). We had a simple game where 2 opponents raced in reading jump out words by tapping the card as the teacher calls out the word. It was super fun and the kids had a good time reviewing their jump-out words.
このユニットが終わる前に、「Jump out words（サイトワード）」の練習を行いました。
ゲーム形式で、先生が言った単語を聞き、2人の子どもがカードをタッチして読み上げる「ジャンプアウトワードレース」。とても楽しい活動で、子どもたちは遊びながら楽しく単語の復習ができました。
Student-Initiated Actions:
One morning, a group of students faced a small conflict over who could use a certain toy first. To our surprise, instead of arguing or crying, one student suggested, “I will help you — let’s do rock-scissors-paper to decide who can use it first.” The others quickly agreed, and together they turned the situation into a fun way to solve the problem.
ある朝、子どもたちの間で「このおもちゃを誰が先に使うか」でちょっとしたトラブルがありました。
ところが、泣いたり言い合ったりする代わりに、ある子が「じゃんけんで決めようよ！」と提案してくれました。
すると他の子もすぐに賛成し、仲良くじゃんけんで順番を決めることができました。
It is our pride to see how the children are able to apply what they learn from their inquiry to real-life situations.
子どもたちが探究で学んだことを、実際の生活の中で生かしている姿を見るのは、私たちの大きな喜びです。
