This week was full of excitement and discovery as our students explored letters, nature, and friendship. We kicked off our learning with a phonics activity that had every child moving and thinking. We also shared a fun “play date” with two other classes, and we embarked on a field‑trip to spark curiosity about living and nonliving things. Finally, we celebrated our creative side by completing our first Halloween craft — a project that challenged us but brought us pride. Here’s a look back at all we experienced together.
今週は、文字、自然、そして友情をテーマに、子どもたちにとってワクワクと発見に満ちた一週間となりました。週の始めには、体を使って楽しく学べるフォニックス活動からスタートし、他の2クラスとの「プレイデート」や、生きているもの・そうでないものへの興味を深めるためのフィールドトリップも行いました。最後には、ちょっと難しかったけれどやりがいのあった、初めてのハロウィンクラフトも完成させ、創造力を発揮することができました。そんな今週の様子を振り返ってみたいと思います。
On Monday in class we had a fun, hands-on phonics session. We began by singing the ABC song together and reviewing each letter’s sound so students would be warmed up and confident. Then, we launched into a game: “Mystery Partner Match” for CVC words. Half of the students received a card with a “‑ig” word (like pig or wig), and the other half received a matching picture. The children walked around searching for their correct partner; once they found each other, they read the word and said it aloud together. Watching the excitement when they found their “match” was so rewarding—this playful movement activity deepens their phonemic awareness, strengthens their decoding skills, and encourages peer learning. It’s a simple but powerful way to bring phonics to life in the classroom.
月曜日のクラスでは、楽しく手を動かしながらのフォニックス学習を行いました。最初にみんなでABCソングを歌って、各文字の音を確認しながらウォームアップ。そして、「CVC単語（子音-母音-子音の3文字単語）」を使った「ミステリーパートナーマッチ」ゲームに挑戦しました。半分の子どもたちは「-ig」で終わる単語（例：pig, wigなど）が書かれたカードを持ち、もう半分はその単語に合った絵のカードを持ってお互いを探しました。正しい相手を見つけたら、2人で一緒に単語を読んで発音します。ペアを見つけた時の子どもたちの嬉しそうな表情がとても印象的で、楽しみながら音の気づきや単語の読みの力、そしてお友達との協力が育まれる素晴らしいアクティビティとなりました。
Though we couldn’t go to the gym on Wednesday, everyone still had fun because we went on a play date with friends from Aurora and Milky Way classes. The students were divided into six groups and enjoyed a nature‑item scavenger hunt. They held hands with them while they searched for acorns, autumn leaves, and more. After that, they had fun running around and rolling down the hill. They’ve become good friends in a short time, and we are looking forward to the next play date with them.
水曜日は、残念ながらジムに行くことはできませんでしたが、オーロラ・ミルキーウェイのお友達とのプレイデートでとても楽しい時間を過ごしました。子どもたちは6つのグループに分かれ、どんぐりや秋の葉っぱなどの自然のものを探すスカベンジャーハント（宝探し）を行いました。手をつないで一緒に探し回ったり、その後は思い切り走り回ったり、斜面をごろごろ転がったりと、元気いっぱいに遊びました。他のクラスのお友達ともすぐに仲良くなり、次回のプレイデートが早くも楽しみです。
Our UOI ３started this week with a provocation field trip activity. The Shooting Star class will learn about living and non‑living things, so we decided to go to the forest center in Shiojiri. We went there together with our friends from the Savannah class at the Shimauchi campus. Before we began our exploration, we reminded everyone that we might see a bee. If we do, we must crouch down quietly so that the bee won’t notice us. Thankfully, we didn’t see any bees that day. We also promised not to swing sticks around or shout loudly. Everyone enjoyed catching insects and safely picking up things they were interested in. They saw various creatures in the forest such as moths, mantises, grasshoppers, frogs, crickets, butterflies, and dragonflies.
そして今週からはUOI（探究学習）３が始まり、その導入としてフィールドトリップを行いました。Shooting Starクラスでは「生きているものとそうでないもの」について学んでいきます。そのために、島内キャンパスのサバンナクラスのお友達と一緒に、塩尻の森林センターへ出かけました。出発前には、「もしハチを見つけたら、静かにしゃがんで見つからないようにしようね」「棒を振り回さない、大声を出さない」などのお約束を確認しました。当日はハチに出会うこともなく、安心して自然の中を探索することができました。子どもたちは昆虫をつかまえたり、興味のあるものを安全に拾ったりしながら、生き物の観察を楽しみました。森ではガやカマキリ、バッタ、カエル、コオロギ、チョウ、トンボなど、さまざまな生き物と出会いました。
Finally, we have finished making our first Halloween craft. It was a bit challenging, but we tried our best to complete it. We hung it in front of our classroom, so please take a look when you have a chance.

It’s amazing how much can happen in one week when we combine learning, play, and exploration. Every activity — whether phonics, scavenger hunts, or crafting — brought us closer together as a class and helped deepen our understanding.
