🌟 Nagano Shooting Stars: A Head Start to Christmas! (October 20th-24th)

This week we began something new — shortened nap time! 😴 The children now rest quietly for 30 minutes, and then enjoy afternoon activities until 2:30. With the extra time, we’ve jumped right into rehearsals for our Christmas play! 🎄

We’ve started practicing Scene One: “The Argument”, and everyone is curious to find out what happens next. Each child will have their own lines and actions, so we’ll need to practice lots! 🎭 We’re also using our creativity — mixing and matching ideas to design our own unique princes and princesses. 👑 We can’t wait to share our final performance with you!

Floating Flowers and Kind Wishes

We also learned a bit about Loy Krathong, a beautiful festival from Thailand. 🌸 People make floating flower baskets and send them down the river, letting go of sadness, anger, and bad luck as they float away.

We practiced our cutting skills by making our own paper versions of these floating baskets — they turned out so lovely and colorful!

🔤 Fantastic Phonics

In phonics, we practiced CVCC words (like hand, tent, send) and worked on identifying middle vowel sounds.
We read “A Nap and a Map” — please read it again together at home! 🏡📘

We also began exploring the “sh” sound, spelling words such as ship, shop, and fish. 🐟

💡 Phonics Game of the Week:
Write some red words, green words, or target vocabulary on slips of paper and hide them around the house!
Then go on a word hunt:

  • Read each word aloud 🎯
  • Tick them off a checklist ✅
  • Or tally how many of each word you find!
Your child could even earn a small treat or sticker when they find lots of words! 🏆

🎉 Fun Friday Adventures

Friday was full of excitement! We had a birthday party 🎂 and a special tiramisu snack 🍰.
But the highlight of the day was a puppet show by a visiting company! 🤩

They performed Musubikororin (The Rolling Rice Ball), a Japanese folktale that teaches us that kindness is always rewarded. 💕 The puppets were adorable, and we laughed so much together. A big thank you to the puppet company for bringing so much joy to our classroom!

📧 Please check Ocrenger for an email about this week’s take-home phonics work.
Thank you, families, for your continued support and enthusiasm — it really helps your children shine! 🌞
