Waterfall: Feeling Colorful! 11.4-11.7

Waterfall welcome back from the long weekend! Now that we know about many different feelings, it is time to discuss LOI 2: Our feelings arise from different situations and reasons. We read “Little Monkey Calms Down,” a book about a monkey who dropped his ice cream, so he feels very sad and angry, but he learned to change his big feelings. We asked students – What do you like and what makes you happy? Our inquirers thought about their feelings and said that singing, dancing, playing and coloring make them happy!

Then students showed lots of emotion and pretended to be angry, so well that their hearts beat really fast. Waterfall danced and sang, then checked their hearts again- It’s not fast, it’s slow! They breathed slowly and traced cute shapes to learn even more ways to think through difficult feelings!

Some time after all the happy monkeys calmed down it was time for Phonics, so they learned all about M and N. Waterfall’s tracing is getting more wonderful each day and many students are writing a bit of their names on their own! In fact, many students are using their tracing skills to create joyful art at playtime or in the schoolyard!

Later, students sharpened their performance skills by sharing Show and Tell items that give them joy, like drawing pictures and finding interesting things in nature!

After exploring lots of ways to express their feelings, students practiced The Enormous Turnip. these risk-takers stood proudly on stage! They decided how each character felt -sad that we cannot get what we want, or happy that we achieve big things! Students did their best to express the emotions clearly, with lively faces and big gestures. These thinkers in Waterfall class are excited to work together to create a magical Winter Show!
