Welcome back! This week we started a new Unit of Inquiry: How We Organise Ourselves, with a focus on transport systems.
We began by reviewing different types of transportation and sorting them into land, water, and air. The children discussed how different types of transport are used for different journeys—for example, taking a train to Tokyo but needing an aeroplane or ship to travel to England. We also talked about how transportation helps people travel further and faster. Next week I will be visiting Minami Campus and will have a couple of days off, but when I return we will begin exploring old and new transport and how transportation has changed over time.
In Mathematics, we covered a lot this week! The children practised writing numbers, explored number bonds to 10, worked on addition within 10, and began learning about adding zero. This was a tricky concept at first, but the children are starting to understand that adding zero does not change a number. We will continue practising number bonds and addition so that children can become more confident, quick, and accurate.

In Phonics, we learned the sounds igh (“fly high”) and oo (“look at a book”). We also joined up with Milky Way for some shared learning, which the children really enjoyed.
It has been very cold this week! ❄️ We were lucky to play in the snow, which was lots of fun. Please take extra care over the weekend, as a storm may be coming.
