CANYON: Wheels Take You Everywhere! January 26-30

JANUARY BIRTHDAY PARTY

Firstly, a big shout-out to our birthday boys and girls! Happy 4th Birthday. Canyon, we finally turn 4 years old. ALL of us, yeah!!!! At our January birthday party, Canyon boys and girls were asked… What is your name? How old are you? They answered well. We had a cake magically appear with the help of the birthday girls and boys. We also learned about the upcoming Japanese Setsubun event and sang a song about the ogre’s pants that are so tough and strong!

UOI – INQUIRY IS USING OUR IMAGINATION – WHEELS TAKE YOU EVERYWHERE!

Play is our work! In Canyon, we pretend play and we imagine that we are cars, bicycles, trains, airplane and boats! We pedal on a bike, we row a boat, the train goes choo choo and the car goes vroom vroom! In play, we learn about the world around us. We learn new words, we do our counting and numbers. We compare – fast, slow, big and small. In ISN, we ask questions and give one another time to think. We are Inquirers! How did you get from home to ISN? To the park? To other countries? How many wheels are there in a car? How many wheels are there on a bicycle? We do our research – that is gathering our facts and knowledge by examining real bicycles, looking at books, videos and of course playing with toys! We even asked Mr Hojo… how many wheels are there on our ISN bus? Answer: 6 wheels… 2 big wheels in the front, and 4 smaller wheels behind.

The last few weeks for our Transportation first line of inquiry was exploring the many different kinds of transportation. Canyon has gathered a good bank of words to identify vehicles and the parts of the vehicles too. Do you see this bicycle… these are handles. You hold onto them. What are you stepping on? Pedals! Cars have engines, vroom vroom. Do bicycles have engines? We read a book Green Eggs and Hams and spotted many different types of vehicles.

SETSUBUN ONI MONSTER CRAFT

We used shapes in our craft. Triangles for horns, rectangles for eyebrows, oval for the nose and circles for the eyes! We have been practising writing capital letters too.

SHOW & TELL

Canyon love sharing about their transport toys and books. Thank you! We have another transport song too… Driving In My Car. Till next week, keep warm and have a fantastic weekend!
