CANYON: We Think with Our Hands! February 2-6

We draw, we think. We write, we think. We use our hands to make origami transport and we visualise how a car, a boat and an aeroplane look like. Hands-on experience is the basis of inquiry. On our wooden stilt walkers, we drew wheels. Canyon learned words like tyre, spokes and hub that make up a wheel. Then in the schoolyard, we pretended to be cars – vroom!

For those who have worked on their 3D Transport, well done! Canyon feel proud of our achievement. We do not have to do it alone, so thank you Mummy, Daddy even Sister and Brother for helping us with our transport project. Keep them coming! The deadline is February 16, Monday.

WRITING NUMBERS – TRIPOD GRIP AND TRIANGULAR PENCIL

This week, we started using 6B pencils for our handwriting practice. The triangular pencil helps children with the tripod grip – thumb, index and middle fingers. Good posture is important too for writing at the table. We say “1, 2, 3, 4 are your feet flat on the floor. 5, 6, 7, 8 are your backs nice and straight? 9, 10, 11, 12 are your pencils correctly held?” We will start with writing numbers, then capital letters will be next. Canyon enjoy writing on the wipe-out cards with whiteboard markers too.

GYM – BALANCING

SETSUBUN

On February 3rd…Oni wa soto, Fuku wa uchi. Canyon was so brave! They threw “soy bean” at the Oni Monster. No one cried. We chased away the red monster. Go away anger, sadness. Good luck and happiness in. Fantastic job, Canyon! Till next week, take care and have an excellent week.
