In our Unit of Inquiry, we discussed how we take care of our bodies by eating healthy food. The students shared ideas about fruits, vegetables, rice, and other foods that help us grow strong and stay energized.
To show their understanding, we created our own “Healthy Plate.” Using colored craft paper, the children made fruits and vegetables and placed them on their paper plates. This hands-on activity helped them understand that choosing healthy foods is an important way to take care of our bodies.
We also had thoughtful “I wonder…” questions. One student asked, “Why are burgers unhealthy? They have lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber.” This led to a great discussion about balance and ingredients. We talked about how some foods can have healthy parts, but may also include ingredients like too much oil, salt, or sugar that are not good for our bodies if we eat them often.

We also explored some “I wonder…” questions together. For example, is watching TV a way to move or rest? Is it good for our bodies? The children shared thoughtful ideas and began to understand that while resting is important, our bodies also need active movement to stay healthy.
Through these discussions, the students are learning that it’s not just about one ingredient—it’s about making balanced choices to keep our bodies healthy and strong.
At the end of the week, we looked at our daily schedule and reflected together. The students noticed that our day is balanced—we have time to play outside and move our bodies, eat a healthy lunch, and rest. We concluded that our daily routine helps keep our bodies strong, healthy, and balanced.
