Exploring How Animals Respond to Seasonal Changes

This week’s highlight was our Three Animal Response Groups activity.

Students explored different ways animals respond to seasonal changes. The class was divided into three groups, and each group focused on one type of animal response. Students worked together to discuss ideas, organize information, and prepare to share their learning.

After becoming “experts” in their groups, we moved into a jigsaw activity. New groups were formed with one member from each original group. Students then taught each other what they had learned. This allowed everyone to hear about all three types of responses and build a broader understanding together.

今週のハイライトは、「三つの動物の反応グループ」の活動でした。

子どもたちは、動物が季節の変化にどのように対応するのかを探究しました。クラスを三つのグループに分け、それぞれが一つの反応に注目して学習しました。グループで話し合い、考えを整理し、発表の準備をしました。

その後、ジグソー学習を行いました。新しいグループを作り、それぞれのグループで学んだことをお互いに教え合いました。三つの反応について全員が学ぶことができ、理解を広げることができました。

Learning Together Across Grades

We also had a special opportunity to combine classes this week.

The upper-grade students taught the younger students how to use a dictionary. They showed them how to find words step by step and supported them as they practiced.

In another creative activity, students worked together to create a character. Each student folded a piece of paper and drew one body part without seeing the rest of the drawing. When the paper was unfolded, a very unique character appeared. After seeing the final picture, students worked together to name the character and create a backstory.

今週は合同クラスの活動も行いました。

上級生が下級生に辞書の使い方を教えました。言葉の探し方を丁寧に説明し、練習をサポートしました。

また、紙を折ってそれぞれが体の一部を描き、一つのキャラクターを作る活動も行いました。広げてみると、とてもユニークなキャラクターが完成しました。その後、みんなで名前やストーリーを考えました。
