Our Shooting Star students especially loved making and eating fruit salad — they even said it looked and tasted like ice cream! They are excited to try making the same recipe with you at home.

This week, we continued our journey of learning about celebrations around the world. We traveled back to Japan to learn about Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day), which is celebrated on March 3. The Shooting Star students created beautiful kimonos using coffee filters and markers. When water was sprayed over their designs, the colors blended together to create soft, artistic patterns, and squeals of delight filled the room as they watched the magic happen. They then used paper cups to make the faces and bodies of the Hina dolls, carefully wrapping the kimono around the cup and drawing the faces. During this activity, the children demonstrated that they are Risk-takers and Thinkers by experimenting with colors and observing the results.
今週も、世界のお祝いについての学びを続けました。日本に戻り、3月3日に祝われるひな祭り（Girls’ Day）について学びました。シューティングスターの子どもたちは、コーヒーフィルターとマーカーを使って美しい着物を作りました。デザインの上から水を吹きかけると色が混ざり合い、やわらかく芸術的な模様が生まれ、その“魔法”の瞬間に教室中が歓声であふれました。その後、紙コップを使っておひなさまの顔と体を作り、着物を丁寧に巻きつけて顔を描きました。この活動を通して、子どもたちは色の変化を試し、その結果を観察する中で、Risk-takersやThinkersとしての姿を発揮していました。
We also explored Mexico’s “Day of the Dead,” celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd. The children created colorful paper decorations inspired by el papel picado, and when they unfolded their paper, beautiful and unexpected patterns appeared — such a joyful surprise for everyone! Through this cultural exploration, they showed that they are Open-minded and Inquirers, learning to appreciate traditions from around the world.
また、10月31日から11月2日まで祝われるメキシコの「死者の日」についても学びました。子どもたちはエル・パペル・ピカドに着想を得たカラフルな紙飾りを制作しました。紙を広げたときに現れた美しく思いがけない模様に、みんな大喜びでした。このような文化探究を通して、子どもたちは世界のさまざまな伝統を尊重し、Open-mindedやInquirersとしての姿勢を示していました。
We were also honored to welcome Ms. Amanda as our guest speaker, who shared interesting insights about celebrating New Year in Zimbabwe. Families gather together, enjoy barbecue meat, and children play in a “jumping castle.” We also had the opportunity to play the traditional instrument called the mbira, and each of us got to touch it. It produced a beautiful and soothing sound. The students also enjoyed participating in a quiz game to check how well they understood and listened to Ms. Amanda.
また、ゲストスピーカーとしてMs.Amandaが来てくれました！！ジンバブエでの新年のお祝いについて、興味深いお話をしてくれました。家族が集まり、バーベキューを楽しみ、子どもたちは「ジャンピングキャッスル」で遊ぶそうです。また、「ムビラ」という伝統楽器に触れる機会もあり、実際に一人ひとりが触らせてもらいました。美しく、心が落ち着くような音色が響きました。子どもたちは、アマンダ先生のお話をどれだけ理解し、よく聞いていたかを確かめるクイズゲームにも楽しく参加していました。
In the gym, we have been practicing rhythmic jump rope. At five years old, the children are developing the ability to perform continuous movements, such as starting and stopping with control, which strengthens their coordination and body awareness. While practicing, they showed they are Balanced and Reflective learners as they worked on controlling their movements and improving their skills.
体育館では、リズムに合わせた縄跳びの練習をしています。5歳になると体をコントロールしながら、動く、止まるといった連続した動きができるようになり、協調性や身体感覚が育まれます。練習の中で子どもたちは、自分の動きを調整し、より上達しようとする姿を見せ、バランスのとれた学習者（Balanced）、そして振り返りができる学習者（Reflective）としての姿を示していました。
On Thursday, Aurora and Shooting Star students visited a park near Tokyo Interior, where they walked together hand in hand, played tag, and enjoyed the playground equipment. It was heartwarming to see the Shooting Star students guiding the Aurora students, acting like kind and responsible big brothers and sisters. In doing so, they clearly demonstrated the qualities of being Caring and Principled.
木曜日には、オーロラクラスのお友達と一緒に東京インテリア近くの公園へ行きました。手をつないで歩いたり、鬼ごっこをしたり、遊具で楽しく遊んだりしました。シューティングスターの子どもたちがオーロラの子どもたちを優しくリードし、思いやりのある責任感の強いお兄さん・お姉さんのように振る舞う姿はとても微笑ましいものでした。その姿から、思いやり（Caring）と信念をもって行動する（Principled）学習者としての資質がはっきりと見られました。
