Grade 1s Personal Identity!

Hello everyone! I hope that you are doing well, and you have had a good week. We’ve been quite busy, but we have had a pretty productive week. The grade 1 students have continued learning about their personal identities and who we are. This week, the students did a their identity cards with information about their names, their birthdays, as well as their likes and dislikes. This week, we also learned that our fingerprints are quite unique. We were able to see the patterns on our fingerprints using washable ink, and each students looked at which fingerprint type they match with, between Arch, Loop and Whorl fingerprint types.

Grade 1 have been creatively busy, developing their own game, with their own unique characters, and cool items during Mr. Howard Kingston’s Creative Computing class. The students have created a path for their game, and soon will decide on the rules of their game. I am looking forward to how it will look and playing along with them!

This past weekend, ISN held the 2026 Spring Festival and it was fun. We had observations for the first two periods, to which we did an English lesson on nouns, as well as a UOI lesson as we discussed our Line Of Inquiry 2, “How we communicate with others makes good relationships (Connection).” For our final activity of the day, the students and parents worked together to make their Family Trees. The students did well to colour their Family Trees well, and it was quite a fun and wholesome activity to do in class.

This week, grade 1 also began focusing on our line of inquiry 2, which is all about how our communication with each other can build good relationships. We read a great RAZ book about good communication and how it can resolve issues its called, ‘Brother Messy, Brother Neat.’ We had a really good discussion afterwards, as we continue to grow within our first unit of the year. Thank you so much, I hope that you enjoyed reading our blog for this week. Enjoy the holidays, and please take care of yourself! Adios!
